No way to make up shit like this.

During his announcement earlier Wednesday at George Mason University in Virginia, Chafee announced his intention to "wage peace," and also issued his call to switch measurement systems.

He also is in favor of "reinvigorating" the United Nations as part of his solution to the threat posed by ISIS....

I guess that means free viagra to the Security Council.

We tried? No. Jimmy Carter proposed it. If he'd have gotten his way back in the 1970s it would have cost the economy billions to just to retool the oil industry and change out scales. Computerized gas pumps and digital scales didn't exist back then.

To do it now is unnecessary. Everything that we import or export is in US measurements and metric. As far as metric goes for weights, volumes and temperatures most of us have become 'bilingual.' Most people are good with meters up to 300.

The tax money would be better spent on real problems.

    WAIT!

    IT GETS BETTER.

    LINCOLN CHAFEE
    LIVES IN CANADA.

    Go Bold.
    Go Metric.
    Invigorate the United Nations.
    Commute from Canada.

Why do I get the impression he's just doing this to give SNL material?

yes, we did. in engineering school we had to solve problems in both English and metric, Yankee Stadium has outfield fences in feet and meters. every other country converted, the US failed at it

    Two things.

    1.
If someone would show me that it would benefit the economy more than it would cost I'd be in favor it. As it is now in the US there's essentially no need to convert to metric by decree from Washington. Virtually everyone has adjusted to using both.

    2.
It sure isn't a front burner issue worth putting money into with other more pressing issues. If it was legislation for it would have been forth before Lincoln Chafee decided on a campaign theme to help SNL scriptwriters for a few months. They ought to pay him royalties on it.
