NYT: Long in decline, barbershops are back, and are serving beer, bourbon and coffee along with shaves and trims.

I started going to barber shops a couple years ago. They do SO much better than salons! And nothing beats a straight razor shave. icon_cool.gif

I'll stick w/ my salon, TYVM: my stylist greets me w/ a shot of good tequila and a lime, and usually has some home-made tacos, carnitas, or some other Mexican treat for her customers. And, she only charges $25 for a great shampoo and cut! icon_cool.gif

I like the haircut my stylist gives me. How I wish he worked at a barber shop.

Men began going to salons in the 70s.

I remember my mom taking me and my two brothers to the barber shop as a kid. I loved the atmosphere of being around men and their conversations. And I loved the smell of the barber shop. To this day I remember the trauma of my first hair cut and how my mom had to sit in the chair and hold me tight in her lap while the barber cut my hair. That man cut my hair until I was 15 or 16 years old. I only new him as "Joe the Barber" or Mr. Joe.

i've been going to the same barber for 20 years. his father founded the shop in parkville, md in the 1960's. an italian family owned business with 6 chairs. moss is fantastic. he knows how i like my sides buzzed in a modified high and tight. the entire group of barbers are great too, when moss is on vacation, i default to one of them. total charge for a cut.......15 bucks. cant beat it. i live in alexanria, va but the boat is kept in the baltimore area. i'd rather get a cut at angelo's than ANYWHERE in the fairfax/falls church/alexandria area. i've road tested 10. and hate everyone of them. so, angelo's gets my business all the time.
enjoy.............. moss my barber is the guy in the pic.

well i suppose it helps with the waiting. Now a days you can schedule an appointment online or by phone. and anyone who "walked in" will have to wait as numerous ppl who made appointments get that sweet theme park free pass.

I usually don't plan my hair cuts. I just go early in the morning as they open.

While I like good coffee and bourbon, seems like it's turning the barbershop into a hipster hangout. :/

I go to the black barbershop in town. They do awesome fades and the people there are cool. Smart phones have kind of lessened the social aspect of it, unfortunately.
