PrEP is a remarkably effective HIV prevention method that involves taking a daily pill to reduce the risk of infection. Although Los Angeles County residents can access PrEP through their private health insurance plans or Medi-Cal, barriers persist that prevent many individuals from accessing PrEP. These barriers include lack of knowledge and awareness, stigma, and cost. It is critically important to ensure that PrEP is accessible to all Los Angeles County residents, rather than only a privileged few.

Other than, self employment, the porn or entertainment industry in LA county, "other" employers might not be so accommodating knowing that some of their employees are taking this drug. Sometimes people forget that thru your employer provided health insurance, the employers name is on your insurance card, your employer and its plan decides what medications, thru prescription drug plan, what it will cover or not. This info is supposed to be private but once you obtain a prescription through your employers plan, your employer knows what you are taking. How is that discreet?

Even if you have health insurance thru exchange, Obamacare, that plan administrators will also know that one is taking this drug. Its not a secret that they wont know, someone with a very active, sex life wants to take this drug. What about closeted or bi men, how are they supposed to remain discreet while taking this? Im not sure how this drug, could be available to everyone in LA county without basically, "outing" the men who take it. Outing men in the porn industry is no big deal, but what if a company like Exxon Mobile in LA, would know which men and why they are taking this drug?

I think more people in general need to be aware of PreP, that it is not just a "gay mans drug". Such as the disease itself was considered when it first arrived in the early 80's. The drug itself may carry the same stigma that of which its trying to prevent. "Miracle drug"? Right now, straight people have no idea what this is, all people in LA county, need to know what this drug is for to reduce any stigma that may come with it icon_idea.gif

"The plan would include a broad range of medical providers, including community-based organizations and clinics that can effectively provide PrEP to those communities most impacted by HIV."

If it's like the community clinics in San Diego or Palm Springs they should be anonymous. There are records of course, but not tied into the insurance industry.
