House Votes To Add LGBT Protections To Housing Bill

"Late Tuesday night, the LGBT community saw a victory when the Republican held House passed an LGBT-inclusive amendment for Housing and Urban Development (HUD) spending. The amendment was proposed by Rep. Scott Peters (D-Calif.), and forbids spending on housing and urban development contractors without LGBT-inclusive, non-discrimination polices."

"The amendment was passed by a 241-184 vote, with 60 of the “Yes” votes coming from Republicans."

I had full season tickets to the Padres for 10 years, and that whole time Scott Peters owned the seats next to mine. Over the years I got to know him and his family. That was before he went into politics, and I have not kept in touch with him since, but I remember him being a good guy.

Note that without those 60 GOP votes, this amendment would have failed. Good move, GOPers!

Very nice. May we see much more of this.

What is the value of new found freedoms without protections? That it's finally okay for you to leave the house but once you do you might get shot? This is taking out the snipers.

Laws against discrimination will be what allows us to enjoy our new found freedom to marry, face to face instead of looking over our shoulders.
