No excuses...haven't trained for a few years...former competitive athlete (football, baseball, basketball, swimming), but travel too much for work to participate on an organized team...late 40s and healthy...recommendations/advice is greatly appreciated!

Wanting to get back into serious fitness training, seems like "trainers" are the way to go, so how does one find a "certified"/"qualified" trainer without joining a gym?

if you're gonna get serious about training I'm assuming that you already have a membership somewhere
...if not thats something else that needs to be addressed
as far as trainers go there are 2 boards that certify trainers... and you can ask them if they hold a certification
that doesn't tell you much because most people off the street can pass the certification requirements

What you need to do is interview them...tell them what you want to achieve and ask them what they will do to help you get there
also... what I've done in the past is find a trainer with the kind of body you'd like to achieve
that shows that he'll be aware of the things you'll need to do to make it happen
