    About time. Now that we have a Government subsidized health care that pays the bills of the poor we needed to do this. After all, how can we let the poor continue to kill themselves unknowingly!!

    Considering that trans fats are unnecessary and that they are a proven health risk, surely banning them is a reasonable thing to do. It is really no different from the bans on dyes that have been demonstrated to be carcinogenic and the bans on unpasteurized milk.

    Let's just ban any sugar in general. Dihydrous oxide kills thousand a year and we need to ban that too. I'm sure the multi-nationals have lobbyists for that. icon_idea.gif

    I'm surprised that there has not been a bigger backlash. Look at how angry some people got at Michelle Obama teaching children to grow vegetables and exercise.

    "As for frying, palm oil is expected to be a go-to alternative, while modified soybean oil may catch on as well." (From the report).

    Here we go again...

    (1) "Approximately 85 percent of palm oil is grown in the tropical countries of Indonesia, Malaysia and Papua New Guinea (PNG) on industrial plantations that have severe impacts on the environment, forest peoples and the climate."

    (2) "Palm oil destroys rainforests;

    (3) "Palm oil threatens forest peoples;

    (4) "Palm oil causes climate change;

    (5) Who is responsible?
    North American food and agribusiness companies purchase from, operate, and own many palm oil plantations in Southeast Asia, making our corporations a powerful force in the palm oil market."

    DON'T USE PALM OIL! (Oh, but as long as it isn't us getting fucked, right?)

    FYI, desertmuscl was being sarcastic. Dihydrous oxide=H2O aka water.

    I doubt that would happen, since the government has large subsidies on corn that are paid by we, the taxpayers.
