I was at Studio One for opening weekend in 1975. Does that mean I'm an endangered species or just old?

And what happens to the other side?, anybody who's been in this club knows its virtually attached to Ultra Suede, entrance on Robertson, meaning that club would be removed as well. ITS TOO DAM CROWDED already in this area for some dumb ass mall. A shopping plaza already exists across Santa Monica Blvd, across from La Peer street. One of my first LA underwear parties was at Factory (very memorable) icon_redface.gif

This development project would change the entire, famous, Robertson/Santa Monica corner, leave La Peer street alone icon_evil.gif

    "virtually" ??

It is attached to the Backlot with the hallway, restrooms and stairs that go down to the parking lot on the north in between.

We are already losing Circus Disco/Arena and French Market eatery. We lost MJ's in Silverlake last year, now the Factory/Ultra Suede. I wonder what's going on? There wont be any large, LGBT local clubs anymore. Large parties have basically moved downtown LA or Hollywood, Avalon, Mayan, Belasco, but these are not gay owned operated. This years LA pride, one of its dance parties was at a straight club 1OAK on Sunset Blvd, the other at Avalon in Hollywood. We also lost the huge gay bath house Hollywood spa, Ivar icon_confused.gif

Funny, French Market !!!! Oh the memories!! I remember getting kicked out of there one time, after the bar for being plenty obnoxious enough, and it took quite a lot to get booted out of there. I was flirting with an obviously straight, REALLY cute Mexican busboy, and he took great offense. I was there with a friend (with benefits) that I nicked named Tampon (InTouch Magazine cover boi Issue 41 or 42). We were at that bar just a few blocks east on the north side of the street ... name escapes me now.

But yeah, I don't like this one damn bit. I'm still pained after all these years that Odyssey closed (northeast corner of Beverly Center). I had a great time in LA and WeHo.

What's going on is that property values are so high that bars aren't highest and best use. Free market comes to play and this time I hate to say ... really fucks things up. Very sad IMO.

The problem is gentrification of West Hollywood keeps going and going to extremes. Real Estate is so expensive there so developers see big money to redevelopment. I really don't see a way to stop it unless the city says no to redevelopment. Maybe the city should see if there is a way to protect the LGBT businesses. Without them, West Hollywood would just be like another city for the rich.

It's the early gay folksier style that I liked such as the original Mickey's (before the fire) more than the current Mickey's or even the current Cantina. As pro development as I am, I'd absolutely be in favor of preserving as much of the Crescent Heights west on Santa Monica Blvd to Pavilions as possible.
