I was just talking to one of my friends that has a granddaughter that is going to the high school that I used to go to. It is in a very conservative (mostly Republican) city. She told me that many of her granddaughters friends are gender fluid. One day they want to dress like a boy, the next day they dress like a girl. They support anyone being what they want to be. That this is happening in such a conservative area is a wonderful thing. I think it is good that they are experimenting with who they are at that age.

She said they also do things that freak her out but I told her that is what they are supposed to do. When I was in high school, I knew mom's that would cry worrying that their daughter would get raped because they dressed like Madonna (with their bras on the outside). My friend told me that when she was in high school people freaked out about hippies not wearing shoes... ;)

I don't know how many of them. She didn't say. I'm not saying all/or any of those people are transgender. I'm just saying they are exploring and determining who they are and are supportive of others doing the same. She told me that the androgynous look is really big right now as well because some of them don't want their parents to know.
