NYT: Supporters of same-sex marriage must now turn to securing protections from discrimination.

Mr. Wolfson writes in his Op/Ed: "...as we did with marriage equality, we need to run a genuinely bipartisan campaign that enlists many champions, including Republicans and businesspeople."

Perhaps he just trying to be a gracious winner, but I cannot think of a single prominent Republican "champion" for same-sex marriage. Quite the contrary, the Republican party seems to be monolithically anti-LGBT.

Thanks, you're right. It had slipped my mind that Cheney had made public statements in support of same-sex marriage.

Thanks Freedom for the clip. This question was asked of Cheney back in 2000 and that is what he said back when he was running for VP. So, the first major party ticket member to support us was a Republican. Long before any major Democrat did. While I think the Republican Party has been incredibly wrong on this issue, demonizing the entirety of Republicans is both wrong and counterproductive.

Personally, while I'm not a Republican, much of my family is and all of them supported gay marriage long before any major Democrat did. On the other side, almost none of the Democrats in my family supported gay marriage until recently.

And, this support wasn't because of me. My mom first voiced support over twenty years ago before she knew I was gay.

^+1M! (Emphasis added.) Thanks for bringing up that little known, much ignored fact. Most folks only think of Cheney in terms of Halliburton and those traditional bugbears: the Koch Brothers!
