Thanks, a wonderful retrospective I hadn't read before.

I was 20 in 1969, and in Midtown Manhattan when the riots were happening, just north of the Village. But not out then, in denial, learning about it from TV and newspapers, not involved, not considering it was something that had anything to do with me.

I now view it as one of my greatest personal failures to have not been a part of it. A reason I try to be heavily involved in gay causes today, to "make up" and hopefully be forgiven for my youthful ignorance. I suppose many of us have regrets in life, and Stonewall is a reminder of one of mine. icon_sad.gif

This incident didn't really hit the news in Columbus. It's all very foggy now, but I somehow knew a little about it. I wasn't real concerned about the Columbus police doing similar as we didn't get harassed too much, even back in 1970. I was much more worried about getting popped for underage drinking and getting my fake ID taken away (age 16, drinking age 18 for 3.2).

About all we got was minor harassment for jaywalking etc., but we were jaywalking across a one way road where traffic was at 50 mph or so.
