All I can say is thank goodness for the internet, without, this information would no doubt be kept in secret circles, the more ya know icon_idea.gif

God is not on our side: The religious right’s big lie about the founding of America

Reagan and others pushed the idea that we're a Christian nation chosen by divine providence. That's not the case

The whole concept of America being founded as a Christian nation goes back to the 19th Century with the Second Great Awakening.

The US was founded as a secular nation, part of our revolutionary uniqueness. It was the only way to bring the colonies together. Some colonies identified with Catholicism, others with Quaker belief, some with Anglican, and so forth.

The Founders said some generic "God" stuff to satisfy everyone, to win ratification of the Constitution, but they avoided making this a country founded on any single theology. So yes, the Bible thumpers are trying to reinvent history, and make us all into their own image.

Unfortunately, the narrow minded bible thumping screwballs will never accept this historic fact. They will keep wailing at the top of their lungs that the U.S. is a Christian nation-state and that all the founding fathers were devout Christians.
