I've never forgotten that a few decades back, my mentor once said to me that "gays are the new nigger" (pardon my use of the word, I'm quoting him and he was not prejudiced; he was just making a point). That especially if someone was flamboyant, and many prided themselves in that, they relegated themselves by the then standards of society to waiter, bussing tables, pretty much the jobs that black people used to do.
I could see that was true but I'd never heard it expressed much then nor since, not until I was watching a doc which I posted under this thread How We Got Gay http://www.realjock.com/gayforums/4073879
which mentions how at one point we were relegated to certain positions if we were obviously out.
And certainly even with progress, remnants exist of that today. Even in the corporate world, that's still in effect. In fact I was stunned at one point when I discovered that I was paid the same as hetero married people with kids though I did way more work and way better than did they. I was out winning awards while these people were coming in 3 hours late and leaving 2 hours early. When I found out we were paid the same, I was pissed. I don't know if it was because I was gay (I'm not obvious but I don't hide myself) or more likely because my managers didn't see me as having kids to support. Either way: Fuck that!
