Mormon church donates to Utah LGBT community center

The Utah-based Mormon church has given its first-ever charitable donation to an LGBT community center in Salt Lake City.

The Utah Pride Center announced the donation from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Wednesday. The center and church have not disclosed the amount of the donation, but KSTU-TV reports the amount was $2,500.

The center says in a statement that the contribution will be used for a program helping homeless and low-income youth.

The Mormon church donated $20 MILLION to fight marriage equality in California's Proposition 8 in 2008. A $2500 donation to a Pride Center in Utah is a tiny step in the right direction, but as I see it the LDS church owes the LBGTQ community at least $19,997,500, just to wipe the slate clean. Only when their contributions in support of LGBT people surpass their contributions to deny gay rights will I be impressed.

This is a positive ray of hope for the Mormon Church. Granted it is only 2.5 grand but that is better than zero. This could possibly signify an awakening in the LDS Church. Anything is possible at this point.

Did they pay by check? Because cash could have been marked. They might be up to something.

But as jeepguySD pointed out, it's a pittance of compassion and a mountain of hate.

    $2,500 v $8 million?

It's worse than nothing! It gives them credibility and spending nearly nothing. Now they can say "Look, we've contributed to your cause!" and talk out of the other side of their mouth at the same time.

Credibility comes with time. The REAL deal doesn't cost a dime. We'll see!

They believe in knocking on people's doors and converting them to their cult, because in dragon-land pluralism isn't an ideal, it's a challenge to overcome in the battle for supremacy.icon_evil.gif

I don't trust them. I would have declined the donation.

Maybe Hillary should return the $58,000 in jewelry she accepted and money that went to the Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton foundation from the Satan of Brunei who likes to stone gays to death:

Here's Hillary with the Satan who had a dinner in her honor:

A typical response of an extremist liberal hen. Go figure.
