Police Officer to me this morning while I'm making my Victims Statement at the RCMP Detachment: Owen! You're not obviously Gay!
My mind explodes with dendritic thoughts.
I laugh! What do I say? I'm very discrete?
Him: How do people know your Gay?
Me, a person who is never prone to hyperbole:
    Oh? Ummmmmmmmmm ... ... ... Oh! I'm a little bit out?
    ... ... ...
Anyways, I'd like to thank everyone who had helped me over the years. And today, I'd like to especially thank my crazy fab friend Jånnå Bånånå for initially supporting me a week ago, and Kate White for supporting me and giving me the gentle push I needed to do what I did today. THANK YOU!

I have no idea what the OP is talking about, but I did like the line about how his mind exploded with dendritic thoughts.

I don't think it matters. The real important topic here is OP's Adult Pic. icon_biggrin.gif

Hi Guys! Some back ground, which I failed to provide:

I'm from the Yukon in Northern Canada (it's next to Alaska). I find the landscape beautiful here, on whole the community here is good, and I like living here, but for the past few years I've been experiencing drive by FAG callings. This sort of thing happens here to me about 1 to 3 times a year. I don't know who these people are, or if the incidents are related. Anyways, the last one happened while I was walking home from lunch on the day of Marriage Equality in the US.

So, I've gone public about it. And reported the incident to the RCMP as a hate crime. They now have an open file, so if this kind of things happens again, I can report the incident.

I'm a pretty outgoing guy, but when this kind of thing happens, I think of the kid I was in Grade 8 when I was called a fag in the hallway in High School, and I think of all those guys out there who are too scared to come out of the closet. This kind of thing contributes to an unnecessary environment of fear. Here are some links to provide a fuller picture:

Thanks, Owen, you basically answered my question above. Sorry you were exposed to that. We expect Canada to be better than the backwards US regarding civil rights and respect for others, but of course there are always the exceptions.

BTW, should you ever need a break from the Yukon, let me know. You could go from tundra to tropics in a day. icon_biggrin.gif

Oh, does that upset an American Imperialist like yourself, who wants to fight and dominate the world? Well, guess what - the rest of the world doesn't like your brand of belligerent American superiority at everyone else's expense.

I have to agree, after a fashion. Heck, there are those even here on RJ, an ostensibly gay site, who feel that harassment of gay people is the norm, and should be expected everywhere. You can find a couple in this thread alone.

    Kolonel KooKoo,

You can not make the statement: "We expect Canada to be better than the backwards US regarding civil rights and respect for others, but of course there are always the exceptions" as you do not speak for anyone but yourself.

Of course, as I noted above, you could have been using the "Royal We" in your statement in which case, your statement would then be (presumably) correct.

Pretty strange stuff coming from someone who claims to have once held a commission as an officer in the US Army, but hey, at least he's consistent in his ignorance. KKK forgets - darn those old blackouts, anyway! - that I, inveterate imperialist that I am, just returned from two glorious weeks road-tripping thru Br. Columbia. And no, I didn't go there to plot its takeover; it's because I genuinely love Canada and Canadians, but know that I'm an American first and proud of it, w/o rubbing it in foreigners' faces. (Maybe that's why I got along as well as I did w/ everyone I met, and was the recipient of several free drinks on my birthday up there.) OTOH, there are some Americans I've never met, don't want to meet, and am not interested in getting along with at all. So, save the wedding invites for your fellow Wilted Manureans - and don't look for any RSVPs from Buckingham Palace anytime soon.*
    _____
*And what's with inviting strangers to "come visit" while preparing to be wed? Shall the Yukon's fresh meat coldly furnish forth the marriage table?

'All things conquer love'? Can that be right? Where is my 7th grade Latin when I need it?

Kudos to you for filing a complaint. The law is there to protect us (hopefully). If we don't protect ourselves, who's going to do so? Complacency breeds contempt.
