If you could be someone other than yourself, which one of the following descriptions would you choose?

    1) A well known actor/film/TV star, you have all the fame, money, lifestyle and celebrity that would go along with that.

    2) A corporate CEO, you call the shots at your company and make decisions that effect your company's future and all the people that work for you.

    3) A superstar athlete, you have a multi-year multi-million dollar contract and adoring fans and the media always wants to throw a microphone in your face and hear what you have to say.

    4) A Philanthropist, you are very wealthy, but give away a lot of that money to organizations and individuals because you believe in helping others.

    5) A monk, you live outside of mainstream society and have devoted yourself to a life of introspection and contemplation.

Your question is distorted : #4 is obviously the most socialy rewarded, so... of course, most of people answering will choose this one, 'coz nobody wants to appear like a selfish jerk ! And as another pointed it out : #4 can be a consequence from the 3 above. Your differents options must be equalized icon_rolleyes.gif

Not it's not. It's the most misunderstood and hated by most people, because most people don't reap the financial benefits of philanthropists.

If you really wanna prove me wrong, just try posting a question on any internet forum (or even a public real-life forum) how many people have been directly affected financially by a philanthropist.

One of my least favorite bible quotes is "the meek shall inherit the earth."

Yeah, we might, but how long will we keep it? After all, the meek always give their stuff away to those who need it more.

... just stuff to think about. icon_wink.gif

I think 4.. or perhaps 2 and then 4... I like the idea of running a company.. but outcome wise, I'd love to be able to be a philanthropist and help others.. I volunteer annually with Habitat to go and build houses in 3rd world countries.. it would be nice to do more..

    4) looks the best to me, to be rich and philanthropic, having the confidence and security of inherited wealth, yet live with little or no publicity or media attention; maybe leading to 5).

Bjorkio is right tho, #4 doesn't explain how you became wealthy and #1-3 don't explain what you do with your wealth/power.
