Why has Bill Cosby skated through this whole rape spree? And where is the "Religious Outrage" about what he's done?

It's like he's a Kennedy. The guy drugged and raped dozens of women and everyone has been pretty silent. Hollywood especially. And he he committed adultery which is actually TWO commandments in the bible. Outrageous.

It's not because he's black, not even remotely. Celebrity and legacy counts for everything, and no one wants to believe anything negative about a celebrity that has been well respected for decades.

(1). The statute of limitations for most, if not all, criminal charges has lapsed, and therefore he cannot be tried by a state or fed government.

(2). Most statute of limitations for most civil lawsuits have passed, and therefore he cannot be sued civilly in state/federal court by a citizen/victim. However, lawyers are starting to get clever with defamation claims and that might be the shoehorn mechanism to essentially litigate "Cosby as a Rapist." It would be a civil money suit, but would essentially be the best consulation prize the victims could get. It would, literally, be "their day in court." I hope it works. Gloria Allred and Lisa Bloom (Allred's daughter) are on it and they've both exceptional civil rights lawyers.

(3). Cosby is a moralizing hypocrit (who misses the mark) and a rapist. I hope his star is removed from the Hollywood Walk of Fame and his other honorary degrees, etc., are stripped.

Not to detract from what else has been said, but in my mind (A) the allegations were too shocking to be believable at first, and (B) the news media kind of botched the coverage at first.

Now that it's been sinking in for a while, and the coverage is focusing on some verifiable facts, I think it's being taken more seriously. I hope.

I think this is probably it. Maybe people are shocked silent by it all... in a state of disbelief. This is rape. A lot of rape. For decades. Unbelievable.

pazkilimanjaro saidCall it sexual deviant week. They exposed bill Cosby on Monday, Jared from subway today. Who's next for tomorrow, thirst day, fry day and Saturday?icon_neutral.gif

I wasn't aware Jared has been "exposed". Some guy on his fund was arrested a couple of weeks ago for kiddie porn, and they've now searched Jared's house. Can we withhold judgment until some news is released that implicates Jared? I really don't care if he's guilty of something or not, I don't even know who he is, but "exposed" seems a bit premature, does it not?

It's not looking good, is it? I honestly always thought he was overrated, know almost none of his work. I considered him more of a cultural fad than an enduring talent. True talent transcends fads, of any kind.

If any of this proves true, perhaps a warning for other celebrities who think their status gives them extra-legal privileges & exemptions. And history is certainly full of people like that.

One of the most appalling aspects to this case is that his victims can't press criminal charges, due to statutes of limitations on rape.... I'm surprised women's rights groups aren't more vocal about changing this, but I guess they have their hands full fighting for equal pay and sovereignty over their wombs...icon_confused.gif

I think it's horrific / what they're doing to this fine black man. There's no shred of truth to any of these allegations by the bunch of women who've jumped on the bandwagon of hate / trying to bring down a good, decent family man. He may have made one little mistake at a weak moment / when a woman probably threw herself at him, but for him to have done all these crazy things to all these women / and they're just now coming forward / no, it just doesn't pass the smell test.

It's pretty hard to throw yourself at someone when you've been drugged against your will.

This isn't The Crucible. Some of the women might be lying but not all of them. This passes the smell test alright. It reeks, unfortunately.

I got roofied on my 41st birthday at a bar on South Beach. Apparently I have a high tolerance, cause all I did was party harder once I realized what had happened. I told my BF at the time "OMG I got free roofies! Yay!" icon_lol.gif

    Hold it right there.
As Whoopie Goldberg said, "He's innocent until proven guilty. That's the law."
    Bible quotes are irrelevant.

You said that he drugged and raped dozens of women, yet there is ZERO evidence of this actually happening.

Why would a rich, charming, attractive man need to drug women in order to be able to have sex with them ?

If he invited women to accompany him to his hotel room, what did they expect was going to happen when they got there ?

    Could it have happened ?
    Yes.
    Did it happen ?
Bill Cosby said that it happened more than once.
Did it happen dozens of times ?
It seems unlikely, but it's possible.

If it actually happened, why did ALL of these women wait FORTY YEARS to complain about it ?

Are there dozens of women jumping on the "Let's file a lawsuit against a rich man" bandwagon ?
    Probably.

It hasn't been forty years. The Cosby Show was on in my lifetime. It has been longer than the statue of limitations in all of the cases where the victim was over 18, so there won't be guilty verdict or an acquittal. He basically got away with it.

As far as why they waited so long. They were intimidated, ashamed, and thought they were alone. The women didn't know about each other until their silence was broken.

Why did gay men wait a millennia to come out? All the same reasons, really.

Somebody drugged me last year and hoped that I would blackout so that he and his friends could do who knows what while I was knocked out...
luckily for me I threw up all over him before his devilish plan came into play...

The reality of the situation is that Bill Cosby has been well respected and idolized in the industry for decades, which was enough to keep any of these women from coming forward. Some of the women who have told their stories have not even filed suit and have nothing to gain by accusing him.

At this point, he admitted to the giving the drugs and settled a suit for undisclosed terms, which doesn't make him look too innocent. What comes out of the horse's mouth is pretty damning and it doesn't even seem like he is really fighting back against the allegations.

This illustrates the most common misunderstanding about why people rape AND what actually happens in rape AND what little people who have never been assaulted know about how rape victims typically react. I can only offer this...

    1. Sexaal predators rarely have less than 3 victims.
    2. Victims almost never expected that they'd be victims. They don't prepare to be victims nor do they know "how a proper victim ought to act when raped." Rape is a trauma. Rape by drugs is a trauma at a different level.
    3. You say why would a rich, charming, attractive man need to drug women.... The answer... he didn't need to rape anyone. And that is the fucking shame of it all. He could've just had sex. Truth is that most men who rape don't need to rape to have sex.
