I am moving to Montgomery Alabama in a few months. I will have some family there but really no friends. I am looking to make friends and work connections. If you live in the Montgomery area, please send me a message, because I want to find the gay neighborhood. Possibly a sports team like volleyball, softball, bowling, baseball, etc.

Montgomery has one gay bar, and that's probably where you're gonna have to start meeting people. There's really no gayborhood, it's a small city...with an interesting history. Good luck.

My experience growing up in a small hick town in AR, it was easier to find closeted (sometimes married) friends to hang out with...especially since I'm a physically active person who doesn't do well in bars (I get bored easily sitting around).

Of course that takes a lot of finesse to handle such situations without being caught by the community and/or his wife/gf. And whatever happens, NEVER post on RJ that you hooked up with a married closet friend unless you enjoy reading a bunch of jaded people posting hateful vitriol about being a homewrecker and stuff. icon_lol.gif

Small city, yeah righticon_exclaim.gif Montgomery has a land area of 155.1 square miles and a central city population of 205,000. That is not a small city. Only Birmingham and Huntsville are larger cities. Mobile is somewhat smaller than Montgomery and its population is 194,000.

Mobile has faced attrition for years because of the desirability of Baldwin County living. A lot of people move there for the space, new construction, proximity to the beaches, etc. but work in Mobile. But the Mobile MSA is a bit bigger than Montgomery. I've even heard that with Airbus and several other companies coming that Mobile is projected to be one of the fastest-growing cities in the next decade. And Mobile is probably the most progressive city in the state (ahead of the rest of the state on integration and gay marriage). And we have 4 gay bars: B-Bob's, Flipside, Gabriel's, and Midtown Pub. Mobile is EASILY better than Montgomery.

I have family there and visit them a couple times a year. I don't go out there but know a bit about it.

The club downtown is "Club 322." @ 322 N. Lawrence. It is the only "gay bar" there now. Nobles and Oasis have been closed for years. On Coliseum Blvd one block off the Atlanta Hwy is the "world famous" Johnny Zip Lounge... where many gays go. Since it never closes it gets packed after 2 am Fridays and Saturdays.

The closest things to a gayborhood in Montgomery are the Capital Heights neighborhood along Madison Ave, and Dalraida, Eastbrook and Forest Hills beyond Capitial Heights where Madison Avenue turns into Atlanta Hwy. Many gays in the entire area. There's Old Cloverdale historic district but get ready to dish out bucks to live there.

They have gay softball and bowling leagues there plus several other organizations.

I grew up in Atlanta and now live in Los Angeles, so as far as I'm concerned Montgomery is a tiny city. I mean please. On any given football Saturday, the stadiums for UCLA and USC contain more people than the population of Montgomery, AL. Pfft.

I'm sure that if you give them your address the entire city of Montgomery will send you a truckload of Dont Give a Fuck to go with your attitude.
