I heard this, so I don't have confirmation, but I heard a man somewhere in a south east state of the US was found guilty of a hate crime for burning a pride flag. Is this true?! If so, tell me, the gay community, do you support such a penalty? Tell me, if you do, then for all those times you protest and walk in the gay pride parades, exercising your free speach, how can you then deny other Americans their free speech?

Free speech and the rights provided to us in the constitution are not tied to anyone's requirements. They apply to all of us. And when you condemn others for their speech, then you should be expected to be condemned for yours.

Never seen a group of people who desired freedom to be who they are, to be allowed to speak their mind, to say that they are tolerant and accepting to be none of these things with people with whom they don't agree. This is despicable.

Didn't happen, nobody cares. Burning a flag isn't a hate crime, but it doesn't make an actual hate crime somehow magically protected by the first amendment.

    Obvious troll by obvious sock.

There's a little thing called intent.

Someone burning a flag just anywhere might not mean anything to anyone in particular. So the freedom of expression with that ought to be protected.

But if someone is burning the symbol of being gay outside of a gay couple's home, then it is not unreasonable to presume that the obvious intent is intimidation, not merely expression.

Why would a threat be protected by law under the guise of freedom of expression? It would not. The action ought to be prosecuted.

Wow. this is why the heterosexual population has a problem with us. Gay rights mean more than other people's rights. Burning a pride flag is not a hate crime - no one is hurt. Burning the US flag is not a crime - no one is hurt. Unbelievable.

OMAHA, Neb. —In court Tuesday, a Douglas County judge released a hate crime suspect on his own recognizance.

ATTORNEY SAYS CLIENT DID NOT COMMIT HATE CRIME LAST WEEKEND
Attorney says client did not commit hate crime last weekend
Cameron Mayfield, 23, goes to court Wednesday, accused of burning a lesbian couple's rainbow flag right in front of them at their home near 32nd Avenue and Vinton Street.

PROTECTION ORDER FILED AGAINST HATE CRIME SUSPECT

The victims of an alleged hate crime in Omaha have filed a protection order against the man charged with the act in Douglas County Court.

Video: Gay flag-burning suspect released on own recognizance

Prosecutors have charged Cameron Mayfield, 23, with third-degree arson after police arrested him for burning a gay pride flag.

"You know, my client is going to apologize for what he did," Mayfield's defense attorney James Martin Davis said.

The charge carries a maximum of five years in prison.

Davis said in court the charge "trivializes what true hate crimes are."

Davis admits his client was drinking since 1:30 a.m. before the incident.

"His uncle's gay, he doesn't have any animosity," Davis said. "He's just some kid that got drunk and it was a prank. Now all of the sudden they're taking this."

Last month, Davis' client, Gregory Duncan, was convicted of a hate crime for a 2013 assault. Davis said Mayfield's actions would have been a $100 fine if the victims were straight.

"There's a political wind that's blowing pretty hard these days in Omaha, and I want to make sure that wind doesn't blow my clients over," Davis said.

The lesbian couple affected disagrees, saying, "The intent really does make the difference. Watching him run toward our house with our burning flag, seeing him stop and wave that burning symbol of a controversial, and inherent part of our being(s) as a minority, in front of our house as a clear message, made it scary. That made it an attack as opposed to a prank."

A judge ordered Mayfield to have no contact with the victims, Ariann Anderson and Jess Meadows-Anderson.

The Douglas County Attorney's Office said Mayfield's charge of arson was aggravated by a hate crime, making his charge a class four felony. He's back in court on March 27.

    But this is OK

NEW YORK'S SEPT. 11TH MUSEUM DISPLAYS NATIONAL 9/11 FLAG
On Tuesday, the Blaze, other conservative sites as well as military related websites are reporting that a group of anarchists, liberals, and communists plan to burn the American flag, tomorrow, July 1, 2015, just days before the 4th of July weekend. An unknown group named, Disarm NYPD, has launched the disturbing event enticing hatred for the flag, the United States, and those who served and died defending the United States. The radical event is to be held at the Fort Greene Park on Myrtle Avenue in Brooklyn, New York.

The hate group was launched in calling for the immediate disarmament of the New York Police Department (NYPD) in light of recent shootings in New York, and the killings in Charleston, SC. The group originally planned to burn the Confederate flag but decided to go after the American flag instead. The organizer stated that the reason for the Burn the Flag event was due to supposed oppression and that the flag symbolized such oppression and the act by Dylan Roof who gunned down nine members of the AME church in Charleston, SC.

The unknown organizer said, “We cannot ignore the roots of Dylan Roof’s savagery in America's long history of institutionalized racism and murderous violence against black people. The Confederate flag, which Dylan Roof proudly displayed, is a lasting symbol of slavery, segregation, and the racist exploitation that still dominates our society. Dylan Roof isn't an isolated actor… he is a product of a consistent pattern of state-sponsored terrorism and radicalized dehumanization in America."

“Still today, because of the color of their skin millions are imprisoned, thousands are executed in the street by police, and those that escape death and torture are harassed daily. There will be no peace until we tear down this system of oppression. It isn't enough to take the flag down; we must put an end to white supremacy once and for all,” the unknown organizer said.

Based on the comments on the Facebook page, not everyone is pleased and feel this act will entice more violence. Last week, the radical Nation of Islam leader, Louis Farrakhan, told his radical followers in DC that the American flag is a symbol of racism and needs to be taken down. Adding to the threat of violence due to the flag burning event, Fox news reported on June 28, 2015 that the DHS and the FBI has warned of possible terrorist attacks during the 4th of July celebration.

You are making a false argument (burning a Gay pride flag that you "heard this, so I don't have confirmation"). And then creating another false scenario built on that assumption (Gay rights (and their flag) mean more than other people's rights).

Now, if someone came on to MY property to burn my flag (the Stars and Stripes, or the Pride Flag) then that's a different matter.

This was not just burning a rainbow flag, this was burning a flag at someone's rainbow home.

Does not a person have a right to enjoy peace in their home? Does this not violate that?

Just imagine the outcry if someone burned an American flag on the lawn or just in front of the home of an American wounded war veteran.

Would that not be considered torment, threatening, hate, and would that not be prosecuted? Or would that violator be allowed to come again tomorrow and to again in front of a war veteran's home burn an American flag?

This is that. We're allowed to stop this.

It has to do with how has the right of free speech and who does not.

The left demonizes, protests, uses hate speech, boycotts, causes physical damage to ANYONE who does not agree with them. And the law follows. All of us should be alarmed because one day the pendulum with once again swing the other way.

Burning ANY flag in the US is not a crime ... so burn your little heart out, it's your money you wasted to buy the flag ... Be sure to burn it inside your house, too, it makes a bigger statement that way icon_twisted.gif

If the heterosexual community fully accepted the gay community then why must we continually have these issues with gay rights? Really, aren't these human rights that has nothing to do with sexuality?

Believe it or not, the liberal gay black community has a huge problem with gay.

The pendulum does swing back, but never as far back as it once was. Do you see anyone proposing Black/white marriages as being illegal?

Enough of this troll. Why has this site become a plant for the manufacturing of Right Wing crap?

I am not burning any flag. I love the United States, no where else I'd live. I am proud to be gay, but I love all people.

You are missing the point. Now in the US, if you don't agree with the left, you cannot have freedoms, you can't say what you want, you can't burn a pride flag but you can burn the US flag. One day, this will work against you.

So if buring any flag is not a hate crime, why are people being prosecuted for doing so?

ummm... last time I checked, trespassing, stealing private property, and committing arson, are NOT expressions of free speech. But thanks for alerting us to your anti-gay political beliefs, in this and your other posts here.
