There are so things that people miss about the the past Real Jock such as chat rooms and even some members from the past who is no longer on here.

I believe that there were more emoticons in the past before I joined last November. Before I had joined, I read some forums from Google search and there were an emoticon of thinking (hand rubbing the bottom of face) that is no longer on here. The emoticons are the same as November of last year but I had never experienced the chat rooms.

What do you miss about Real Jock that the site no longer offers?

You answered your own question with the exception of the emoticon thang.

Sharky comes and goes. It's not good to spend too much time on here.

Yes I has yet to spar with any members so far thankfullyicon_cool.gif, but I had not be on Real Jock that much until recently because I was attending classes and having a social life.

Sharky, Sharkspeare, Sharkarella somewhat represented what online forums are full of these days: People with enormous amounts of time on their hands.

They engage in lots of topics. They comment on everything. They have feisty dialogues with other members. They are entertaining though they have very little to say. They stay at home and post all day and night----so why would they actually be interesting?

What RJ has fewer of now as opposed to 5+ years ago are the people with active life experience who participate maybe 30 minutes a day, but always with interesting real life perspectives.

I think like nine people have been seriously maimed since The Shark unplugged and swam out into the real world.

"Maybe you and some of these other guys complaining about this web forum need to go to other web forums as in any Web forum to see how web forums operate.

That way you actually see that participation on a Web forum is what keeps that shit alive"

    Hey, I Completely Agree.

But it's also what has caused most forums to attract only people who don't have an active participation in the broader world.

You are an example of this. Not that you don't have interesting perspectives, but you can't offer much real life experiences when you write in these forums.

I miss lilTanker from Australia. And some other former or inactive members.

I also miss the live chat, with audio & video. I didn't use it that often, but a good feature. Also IMs. I usually had them turned off, because of nuisance hits, but another useful feature when you wanted to do an invited 1/1.

I miss the paid premium RJ version, that let you block all the ads. You also got neat stuff, like RJ logo T-shirts (with the old-style logo). I still have mine.

Well, not to be all graphic or anything, but, there used to be this ripped, hung dude that jacked off on adult chat at least three or four times a day...as if his life depended on it...was very inspirational.

RJ was once inarguably a more vibrant forum. I'm not sure if there's anything else like it that has replaced it. I think it deteriorated and people left in droves, in part because they got sick of all the green grass that has turned to mud. Everyone just used it without concern for preserving it. Kind of sad, but on a macro level, that's the story of human existence on earth. In that sense, the death of RJ and climate change are outcomes of the same phenomenon, also known as the tragedy of the commons.

You're our last chance to see someone reach the 50000 mark. I hear you win a free car, or a free five minute groping session with the hidden/deleted member of your choosing..... (I'd go with the car.)icon_neutral.gif

I made some good friends and I was able to help support a lot of older guys who were coming out of marriages. That helped me bond with a lot of guys and I do miss that. When the 'mass exodus' occurred, many of my favorite members went with them. After that, it wasn't the same for me. Having been around since almost the beginning when it was owned by a couple in SF, it lost it's luster with the invasion of the trolls and all the nasty fighting. Prior to that, there were disagreements but never the nasty name calling and if it happened, the person was immediately isolated by the members. I miss that, the conversation about fitness, the general attitude that we're all gay, we like to workout, enjoy eye candy and pretty much became a family that cared for each other, then came the divorce, step family, half brothers and parents that quit caring....the demise was written on the wall....very sad indeed.

I think the chat, IMs, and video chat being removed played a part in the exodus of some members as other sites such as gay.com experienced the same situation with many members leaving while A4A I think still have chats and videos are more popular than gay.com at its height, there can be 100,000 members online during their peak times.

For some members on any site, after a while the "euphoria" of a site wears off and some people goes on a site less and less until they are no longer on a site or deleted their profile.

Dating apps may play a role, some people go on Jack'd or Grindr to meet with guys since there are more guys and the novelty has not wore off for the "newer" sites. Some people disappointed at the lower number of guys goes to where "there is more "more fish in the sea".

I did not know that there was a premium version of RJ but I remember the old style logo.

More porn like you make this website, more traffic it will attract. It's simple theory. Getting rid of video chat drove many members away. It's so useless to type using your both hands.icon_lol.gif

The loss of the chat room was definitely a downside for me.

Many people went on RJ because of the chat room, gay.com did the same thing and their members plummeted yet A4A still has the chat and attracts between 50,000 to 100,000 members at any given time, so for "desktop sites" keeping the chat room is good for business.

I never had been able to have the experience of a RJ chat room, newer members don't have that experienceicon_sad.gif.
