Fewer People on Real Jock

I noticed that there are fewer people on Real Jock recently compared to late last year. The number of guys online during the past week never exceeded 1100 and often even at peak times barely exceed 1000 guys online. During December at peak times, which is usually around 11 to midnight Eastern Standard Time or 4 to 5 UTC time, there would be often 1400 or more guys online, out of curiosity I had recorded the number of people online. I had gotten this using UTC or Greenwich Median Time.

    December 2014 Today
    1:00 1350 880
    1:30 1370 880
    2:00 1400 890
    2:30 1400 890
    3:00 1400 900
    3:30 1400 890
    4:00 1390 890
    4:30 1430 920
    5:00 1440 880
    5:30 1410 870
    6:00 1390 830
    6:30 1350 810
    7:00 1310 770
    7:30 1230 690
    8:00 1130 680
    8:30 1040
    9:00 970
    9:30 910
    10:00 840
    10:30 790
    11:00 760

The forums seems a bit slower compared to late fall early winter. I am thinking that since it it summer in the Northern Hemisphere, fewer people are indoors so less computer use and this site is not the best on mobile phones since the text is small without zooming. In summer more people are with family, neighbors, and friends since the weather is nicer and vacations abound. This would cause fewer people to be on this website.

Another reason for fewer people is more people either sign up or go online in the fall or winter since the holiday season and its weight gain and people look for fitness and this site helps with weight loss goals. When Spring and summer comes, many people either are much closer to weight loss goals so the site be used less.

Right now it is winter in the southern hemisphere but far fewer people live in that hemisphere and Australia and New Zealand are the only developed wealthy countries in the southern hemisphere so the seasons and number of users are less represented. Most Real Jock members are in the Northern hemisphere. Also the peak use is when its is evening in North America probably most users are in North America and use this site after school, work, or after dark.

Feel free to comment about Real Jock and if it feels like the forums slowed at all.

    * Very, very curious how you're recording this information.

    * Yes, the forums are definitely slower and quieter.

    * I think more and more people are using mobile devices which may or may not show a person 'online' like a desktop would.

    * I think there seems to be a connection to the school year, but I don't really understand how that plays out.

    * Pretty sure I saw it over 1100 at some time in the last week. I don't disbelieve what you saw though.

Much as I'd like to see lots of people putting the forums to positive use, if I had to choose I'd pick quality over quantity. Last year got really disturbing, and lately people have been really good about looking past the trolls. Since I know it probably won't last, I'm enjoying it while it does.

Well in general, due to social media, (Twitter, instagram, reddit, etc) forums are becoming a thing of the past. And a good amount of users of this site seem to use the forum. There could be others reasons as well for the fewer activity however.icon_neutral.gif

So many of the people who left did so with such bitter feelings. I can't count how many people said f*** u, RJ, and let the door hit them in the ass on the way out.

Ridiculous generalizations. Sounds like you have a personal issue.

The forums got hijacked for a while by a bunch of crazy Republicans led by SouthBeach who spammed the topics with presumably Koch Bros sponsored bullshit headlines mostly about Obama and then Hillary. I don't know if the intent was to kill the site, influence the votes of people who only read headlines (that's my guess) or just to make money. But after a while, a lot of guys just got tired of the crap and started going elsewhere. It was like every time you turned on your TV, it was tuned to FOX news. You feel like it sucks brain cells down the toilet.

There's also a contingent who's life appears to be fueled by the sport of being truly ugly, mentally, to other posters. Get's tiresome and feels like you've rolled in manure.

If Real Jock eliminated the "block" feature...

...then the site would become completely unusable and most of the remainder would leave. It would just be you, Pazzy, theantijock, pouncer/mwolverine, Occupy RJ, and a few spectators enjoying the final train wreck.

The only thing keeping the psychopaths from completely taking over the site is that they know they don't have a captive audience.

So True. God Save The Block & Ignore!

Psychopaths gonna be---and do all that they are allowed to get away with. Southbeach can't control himself.

have to block members as trolls and multiple accounts have taken over the site.

A post proclaiming Hillary as a bitch will stick like glue (maybe she is) and those on gay or fitness issues will quickly dissipate.

Realjock has had a long history of republican politics. Not a bad thing as prior to 2009 republicans and democrats all hated us. But face it, politics has changed for the LGBT crowd after 2009.

the old realjock guard hammers away to stay on top potential new members must have a thick skin.

The site has to make money which depends on google page clicks for each visitor (presumably). Ad revenues, presumably, depend on this. That's why I suggested eliminating the block and ignore functions.

But there are states like Arizona and Southern California who don't like the rest of us, they are the elites, and they block us. Scottsdale, Flagstaff, and Palm Springs, especially. The gay community moves to these places thinking it will be paradise. Then they suffer with the paradise syndrome since they learn life isn't perfect.

Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Palm Springs. People arrive home, close their doors, turn their air conditioners on, and have nothing to do with each other. These two cities -- the loneliest, most miserable people I have ever seen. Then they go on chat rooms in a depressed state and block everyone they don't like.

Don't stay too long or you'll become like one of them.icon_evil.gif

I've worked at a number of factories over the years which I've found to be all too willing to spend a dollar to save a nickel. Getting rid of the block feature would basically be the same thing: lose a lot of members to get a few extra clicks out of the few who are left.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but if your dilemma is how to force-feed people your point of view, I think your goals and/or strategies could use some refining. In particular the desire to be the center of lonely, miserable people's attention seems to me self-defeating. Perhaps you're better off just moving on and not worrying too much about them.

MuchMoreThanMuscle saidThe site has been really slow as of late. Earlier today I couldn't even sign on.

This site needs a serious makeover. I see Jeff, the administrator diligently deleting fake profiles but that's ridiculous compared to how much this site is falling behind on several levels.

I wish I'd been paying attention from the beginning, but from the name services and IP addresses, it looks like RJ is coming from Amazon Web Services (and from RJ's age, I doubt this has always been the case). Between the occasional hiccups and little changes I've been seeing in site behavior, I choose to believe that they're working on the the back-end infrastructure and provisioning. If I'm wrong I don't really want to know.

For Lord only knows how long, BRO, you your very own self have been bringing the fun "Can You Take the Guy Above You" threads in the Wrestling sub-forum to a screeching halt. Over and over and O to the V-E-R with your continuous jumping in and self-promoting just about every single time somebody dares to post. "Kwitcher bitchin'" when you are a flagrant offender in terms of making guys not want to get involved.

As for the OP, it must be nice to be able to take hours and hours out of a day to compile a LONG list of meaningless statistics. WTF!?
