There appears to be a lot of illnesses and abnormalities linked to smoking and that is nicotine. I cannot imagine the even worse illnesses associated with marijuana smoking. Yet many ultra leftists want to decriminalize marijuana for unlimited recreational consumption. What idiots.

I wonder if this is somewhat of a case of correlation without causation. Thinking of the schizophrenics with whom I've dealt extensively, most had non-smoking onsets while they were teenagers, and the adults onsets also did and do not smoke. However, thinking of one case, a man—now in his late 50s with severe schizophrenia since he was about 13—he did take up smoking in his late teens and has heavily smoked ever since, so there may indeed be a link with the severity of his condition. Obviously, smoking is so bad for one's health on so many levels, that a presently unknown causation link may indeed exist.

People who are schizo probably smoke more to calm themselves down, so I mean what can you do?

I'm not giving up my cigarettes anytime soon.

I quit smoking in December 2014. Smokefree for 8 months now! Can't believe I ever did that nasty habit. Can't stand the smell now.

Smoking is a red flag or me. I have never met a healthy smoker and when I meet someone and then sneak away for a smoke break, I always bolt. It's a sign of addiction and insanity.

'metta8' quoted: Schizophrenia linked with smoking. It is great to surf the Internet but when you start believing every jargon, it becomes a problem. Next: Do you believe marshmallows were secretly created by Aliens? Schizophrenia is not linked with smoking, maybe cancer or other health related problems are. Shizophrenia may be caused by a genetic imbalance or a serious Depressive episode (where the brain causes a Mental Block - in this case the patient will be hospitalized in an Insitutution). Schizophrenia, together with Altzheimers and Bi-Polar is not something to take lightly.

I've been around two people that had psychotic breakdowns linked to schizophrenia. Neither one smoked cigarettes although one smoked dope, which the doctors said likely magnified the problem. My experience is only anecdotal but enough for me to question the claim. Smoking rates are down significantly but I have not heard that the rate of schizophrenia are significantly lower either.
