Hello, I really dislike how skinny I am. I know some people are probably going to bitch about how they think that's ridiculous but oh well. I have been trying to gain weight now for two years and have not been successful. I weight lift, I try to eat four times a day, I take weight gainer shakes and i'm still not getting past 150. The weight gainer that I am currently on is called serious mass and there is 1250 calories, 252 carbs, and 50 grams of protein in each serving.

The things that are holding me back is that there are some days where it is hard for me to eat four times a day. I work and go to school full time so sometimes i'm just too busy to make it a priority. The other thing is my family has an insane metabolism and i'm pretty sure that mines not slowing down until i'm in my mid twenties. Does anyone have any constructive advice that might help. I'm looking for any new ideas that I might not have thought of.

Lolol. Budd was just fucking around man. Plus he was complimenting you so chill man.

Look. You and I are pretty much alike when it comes to body type and metabolism. When it comes down to it, you are just not eating enough. If you really want to put on the weight youre gonna have to dedicate more time to your meals or just stay at 150 lbs. Consider adding some peanut butter to your serious mass, maybe some seeds an egg and oatmeal. Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches help too. Dont just eat four meals, incorporate snacks in between meals. Nuts have a lot of calories so you can eat those throughout the day. You just have to make it a point to eat more brotha. Best of luck, I know it is challenging.

Digestive enzymes might help you getting your meals through faster.

Have you tried creatine? 20 grams a day for 5 days then 10 grams for 8 weeks. Lots of water. No more than 5 grams per 3-4 hour period so for instance: wake up 5 grams, then 5 grams every 4 hours, go to bed and sleep 8 hours. Or a gram every hour and two extra before and after bed.
Get tablets or powder. Just don't bother with trying to dissolve it. In your mouth and then rinse it down. Lots of water.

Weight gain is more than a day of eating. I think if you look at your caloric intake over a week, you're going to see that those days you can't really eat are keeping you at your current weight.

I used to work 12, 14, and 16 hour shifts in the ER. I ate whenever I could, always had cashews/almonds/nuts to snack on and some kind of high calorie shake.

An amino acid supplement has done wonders for me in adding lean mass...If I were you I'd eat anything I could get my hands on, and lift consistently and heavily.

Hang out with guys that can gain weight and copy their behavior to the letter.

130 lb Marines recruits gain 30 lbs in bootcamp doing heavy weight squats. Squats stimulate the biggest bones in your body to produce growth hormone. You will get big all over. It's called the Whole Body Effect

Yoga inversion poses will regulate a thyroid that may be a bit whack.

I'd do it slowly. Add 500 cal/day to your diet, making sure the calories come from good sources. Protein is very important.

There's so much out there on this. I tried Men's Health.com and found a great article. Just google it. It's not hard, it just takes discipline just like anything else. I wish I was in your shoes. I'm 265 and trying to get to 220 and it is a bitch.

    Cheers.

There is nothing wrong with your weight or being slim. We are not all the same and many guys bodies are not designed to be heavy. Perhaps you should consider why you want to be heavier and whether it could actually improve your quality of life.

Comparing your weight and hight does not indicate that you are underweight.

Do you know how many calories you need to maintain your current weight? If not, you will continue to not make progress because you do not know if you are eating enough to maintain or gain. I highly recommend this calorie calculator from Scooby-sama

    http://scoobysworkshop.com/calorie-calculator/

From there, decide how high your caloric surplus should be. Also, you should invest on myFitnesspal to record your food and a digital kitchen scale to know the exact amount you are putting in your body. Do not eat indiscriminately just because you are young!

You try to eat four times a day?

Of course you have trouble eating. With just 4 meals a day your portions must be enormous to match your needs. Do more meals so you can reduce your portions. Smaller meals take less time to eat if time is your problem. I do 9 precisely because my appetite isn't that great.

If you still can't do it, well... no one's gonna eat for you.

Now, as for the "try"... a good diet is not something you "try", it's something you do. You're not gonna look muscular by "trying". Your body doesn't care about your good intentions, it cares about what you eat.

    GOMAD, bro.

Anyway, there's really no secret - I used to be 130 and I'm up to 170 now. I was stuck for a long time and kept thinking I was eating enough, but wasn't putting on weight. Don't count on your metabolism slowing down. I had people telling me my whole life "Wait until you're 18, you'll see." After 18: "Wait until you're 21." After 21: "Wait until you're 25...."

First, remember that you're only going to put on about a pound per week at most - at least if you don't want to get fat as heck.

Second, track your calories. Actually, first calculate your macros, THEN track your calories. You probably aren't getting as many as you think. Do that for a week or two, see if you're putting on any weight. If you aren't, add 100-200 calories per day. See if you gain then. If so, great, keep it up. When you stop gaining, add more. Etc. etc. etc.

    Also, GOMAD.

I have the same problem too, I was born ectomorph until 20 I saw no significant changes on my body. Was concerned as hell about it.

From there I tried to do the lifting as well but none of them ever worked. When I tried to lift: I got sore for weeks and because fast metabolism, when I went mad I just shrinked instead of getting bigger, so I stopped. Then I tried supplement: it was not suitable and I got kind of poisoned at the end. So I tried to eat a lot like ALOT: you bet I got appendicitis instead. So I stopped all the efforts and tried to take it easily as I want.

I started to skate and it helped more than I ever tried to build up my body just adequately. now I couldnt be more happier with my legs, when I wear jeans my legs definitely look like those in SNSD lol, but only manlier and bigger. My butt too, it round up a bit so it wasnt at all very bad. My advice is just to get it on with ease and have fun with whatever activities you think might help you. Try your hobby on sport, if you like it, you wouldnt even think of building your body and yet it sort of builds up by itself. Just a little story to share. Hope it motivates. =)

    Best luck out there mate!

Weight Gainer shakes, add more Protein to your diet in reality. You need to go on a high sugar, high fat intake binge. It is difficult once the pounds are put on to get them shed, so be warned, but it is worth it, if you want to gain weight. All you need do is consume one bag of potato crisps, followed by 2litres of your favourite Soft Drink, every day. Also don't be shy when you have supper, pile that plate high. Trust me, in one week you would have gained two kilo's or more.

Ouh please If I would have that kind of a problem, I would stuff my face with pizza and cheesecake every day and I am sure after couple of months I would be fat, if you want to gain weight eat the shit with a combination of high fats and sugars in it.

and don't listen to those who advise you take high amounts of protein, protein in large doses is TOXIC to the body especially liver and kidneys.

You need to be eating non stop. I understand you go to school. Your school bag should be full of two things, books and food. Pack a lunch, pack 2 with a drink, a sandwich, a cookie and a piece of fruit if that's all your imagination can conjure stick with that or choose other options, but have the food and eat it. You're an ectomorph keep candy bars cookies, cake etc with you, If you try to eat and eat the two lunches you pack, add that to the protein shakes you're having, you should see a difference. I start every day with a huge bowl of oatmeal loaded up with fruit, peanut butter and sometimes power greens. Try that too, but always start your day with a huge calorie loaded breakfast.

Serious Mass is one of my favorites. Piles of calories. I was 230 at 5'5" when I did it twice a day. Makes ya' bloaty, though.

Anyway, if you eat enough, you'll gain.

Some folks can have metabolic disorders. Other folks just are so busy that unless they eat a bunch of saturated fat, they don't gain well.

If you can get thyroid workup. You don't have the luck of that medical issue, but, you should still check it. T2/T3/T4/T7/RT3

I've been known to eat to large pizzas in one sitting. Not in the past few years, but, it was not uncommon in my 20's. I'm just wrapping up my 41'th year of lifting. In my late teens, I weighed about 175 (I'm a very gifted lifter.) I my late 20's I weighed 230 and was studied by the NSCA for it. I again was 230 in my late 40's. Not fat. Just huge. I never used anything other than food for a very long time. I had a weight coach tell me he could get me to 250 if I moved to Houston and lived with him and his wife for a year. 250 at 5'5" is MASSIVE. As I write this, I'm 55 year old, 5'5", and I weighed #189 pounds this morning. My cardiology team loves me. I'm the poster child for cardiac recovery and wellness.

Another thing you can have checked it your testosterone / androgen levels. Some guys have low levels, even at your age. It can be important to know because higher test levels (normal to very high) lower your risk of heart cv events by 57%. I.e., if your test is too low, it will be hard to make gains, and you will age much faster. My main profile picture was taken about three weeks ago. I encourage you to read the AHA studies around all the benefits of testosterone in men.

Chill out dude. The guy was just hitting on you and giving you a compliment. Plus it was just a joke. Geezz.

Anyway, I was skinnier than you when I was 22. I was 6'1 with a 27" waist! I tried everything to gain weight, including setting my alarm clock for 3am just so I could get up and eat a peanut butter sandwich and a protein shake. At the end of one month doing this I had gained one measly pound. If you're a true ectomorph (and you are) it's going to be difficult. The good news is as you age your metabolism will slow down and gaining will not only be easier but will actually become a problem. So you don't realize how good you have it because you've never experienced the other side of the coin. It really sucks once you have to start monitoring your intake of foods you used to could eat with no restrictions.

Alpha13 gave you the best advice I've seen so far, which is to lift heavy using compound movements: Squats, Deadlifts, Bench Press. Forget bicep curls and shit like that. They're a waste of time. And as Bonaparts said above, watch it with all those protein drinks. It becomes toxic if you consume too much and most people who are trying to gain do take too much.

I'd give my left nut to have your "issue." It took me 1.5 years to lose 70 lbs, and it hasn't been easy to keep the weight off. I have to remain conscious of everything I eat and how much, or the weight will reappear faster than I lost it.
