Right-wing Christians are the American Taliban. That explains this whole video. They are always in the right, gays are always in the wrong. Logic and law are irrelevant to them, because they are the True Believers.

There is no equating violence with the ideological inconvenience of living in a pluralistic society. This is extra sad because, I am sure, people are still attacked for being Christian somewhere in this world. But then, the shepherd was never bothered by the suffering of the flock.

Brett !!! thanks for posting this !!!! It always amazes me at how the "christian right" can promote such blatant bigotry against any human beings at all, when the whole basis of their religion is supposed to be tolerance and "love(ing) thy brother as thyself". just this past weekend there was a murder at a gay bar not far from where in live, and one commentor identified himself as "christian" then went on to condemn the gays, and saying that the gays were going against religion and traditions that our country was formed on, that the gays were ruining the country, he closed his comment with "why is this (murder) even news? I say good riddance". What a nice example of the christian religion and his traditions !!!! These people are just as bad as the taliban if they were allowed to act on their bigoted thinking.

I was never aware you've disagreed with me on other things. Either you've got to be more vocal, or I've got to pay more attention! LOL!

People like that shouldn't be able to claim to be Christian because they're nothing of the sort.

Even though I don't see eye-to-eye with everything gay, I see absolutely no reason for life to be lost over it.

    It's just a waste... icon_neutral.gif

Hmm. A few weeks ago I had to spend the day with a Mormon, she knows I'm a fag. But discrimination was her key word for the day?

But lets not for get. gay people bash threaten, and intimidate homosexuals too.

The thread wars held here during the American election campaign, dominated by the gay left, was anything but nice, and any one who dared show a right wing leaning were brutally attacked, even I had threads of hate started just for me, and I sit on the fence, and am not American.

Are left wing homosexual that diffrent from right wing Christians?

In response, I would have to say YES, left wing homosexuals are COMPLETELY different that right wing Christians!!

"Left wing homosexuals" are asking for fair rights under the law, and freedom from violence and hate-speech directed towards them.

They are militantly anti-right because the fiscal conservative right was hijacked in the late 70s by the Christian Conservatives.

The financial conservatives allowed this to happen as a means to establish a voting block that was competitive with the social welfare being provided by the Democrats.

The outcome was an extremely fiscally conservative and ANTI-GAY Reagan administration.

And look where that got us with the AIDS epidemic and social rights for our voting bloc.

Reagan was probably one of the DUMBEST and deceitful presidents in modern history. (IRAN-CONTRA anyone?!?? And speech analysis showed the Alzheimer's was in effect in the 80s already.)

I am all for those that want a small government and fiscal conservative rights.

But you need to be aware that when you vote with the stupidest religious nutjobs, you're letting an idiot like Bush get into office.

And his anti-gay rhetoric in the run-up to the 2004 election is inexcusable for the legitimization of the Christian right's view on homosexuality.

That is why the "left-wing homosexuals" like my previously Republican family are so militantly Democrat now. They would rather pay higher taxes for social liberty from the tyranny of the majority.

Thank you for letting me vent on this tirade,

    Brett.

    Fuck....

Wonderful, though horrifying video. I appreciated the wrap back around to Prop *. One of my friend had a woman break his windshield, with his 12 year old son in the car, during a No on 8 rally. He was just driving by and honked in support.

Yes, this is a powerful video indeed. However I worry that this is only going to be an on going fight. Though there are a lot of important details with in this, the people that must understand this are only still going to shout their ears and close their eye and scream and shout as they swing their arms, hitting anyone that gets in the way like Rouge when someone's in her head.

Most of the world only wish to live in peace. However, sometimes I feel that as long as there are opinions in this world, violence and war will indeed live.

Studying the world closely, you start to learn that humans, as a whole, are nothing more then beings of destruction. Something that can take a lifetime to build, would easily be crashed by humanity. As long as opinions are thought of, the more disagreements to be made. And to most people, the thought of someone having a different thought or view then their own, gets them angry. Angry enough to strike. And in the end, yet another beautiful thing is destroyed.

.... sorry i don't know where I was going with this. My fingers just wouldn't stop typing

I agree with most of the message of the video and I have sent it to some friends I think will help spread it around the net. My only comment to argue against what is being said is that gays do not have an exclusive right to the word BASHING nor does that word have to be used to express something physical but could be used, as CATL have used it, as psychological.

I am intent upon playing the role of devil's advocate here, less because I want to argue on the side of the Christian right and more because I want to hear what guys on here would say in response to the arguments above.

I have mixed feelings about this. This guy does a great job refuting CADL's talking points, but this is an organization I've heard nothing about. I worry that he'll only help them get their message out to more people. Sometimes, the best thing you can do is ignore these sorts of things so you don't give them power and exposure they might not otherwise receive. But, the tactics do not surprise me. I worked for GLAAD for many years, and the Religious Right was HIGHLY organized. They've been working together for years now, coordinating their messages. You rarely see them off-message, especially with each other. It was only a matter of time that they saw how effective the tactics of GLAAD and other orgs were and that they should appropriate them.

Pattison, stop playing the victim. I'm sure everyone is aware how nasty the political threads were, but that went for both sides. You don't remember how Obama supporters were labelled as socialist, among other names? And you were definitely not on the fence. You explicitly stated your support for McCain and said that people from other countries should vote in the US elections because everyone is affected by the president's actions.

As a gay Christian, I can sort of see both sides. Yes, there IS bigotry towards Christians. Especially in the gay community. That bigotry, however, is somewhat deserved because of the way some "Christians" have treated homosexuals. Hating an entire group of people because of the actions of a few in that group IS bigotry. HOWEVER, as this video pointed out so well, there is a HUGE difference in gay-bashing and Christian-bashing. At least in the U.S. where Christians are not the victims of violence based on their religion yet gay people are the victims of violence based on their sexual orientation. And another major point is that religious beliefs are a choice whereas your sexual orientation is not. Being mocked for your belief system is A LOT different than being mocked, beaten up or discriminated against for something you have no control over(your race, gender, sexual orientation, etc.). I've been hated and judged for being both gay and Christian but I carry emotional scars from the former, not the latter. These "Christians" should be apologizing for contributing to the climate that encourages gay-bashing, not playing the victim card.
