I saw on the news this evening that Trump threatened to run as a third party candidate if his republican challengers, "don't treat him right". This is the Ralph Nader tactic, and it fucked Gore in the ass. I'd like to restate this, Trump will take no prisoners in the debates, and the eventual republican nominee will be left bruised, and morality wounded. Aren't there any middle of the road republicans left to stop this train wreck? RUN TRUMP RUN.

Trump is showing his genius here. This is what a negotiator does. He has cards to play and he isn't going to be pushed around by the Washington establishment. So he makes a threat he can deliver on. They will cave. They have to.

This is an example of negotiating from a position of strength, something the current president simply does not get. Case in point: Obama signs a deal with Iran THEN calls for the release of the hostages. He should have told them we don't even start to negotiate until the hostages are released. They would have caved.

Caved to WHAT? It was the Iranians who held the cards. The US bomb them unilaterally without widespread international backing? And the US once again becomes the Great Satan of the Islamic world? And an international war criminal? YOU go bomb them.

Totally false. We had the upper hand with the sanctions, which were strangling them. Second, you buy into the Obama bullshit that the only two choices were a bad deal and war.

donj499 is spot on. Learn from people like him! Everyone knew that Obama and Kerry were desperate for a deal. Fair bet that if Trump were negotiating, the hostages would have been released as a pre-condition to negotiations. Bet the hostage families are thrilled.

Simple analogy: You go into a car dealership to buy a car. You see one in a very rare color. You tell the salesman how important it is to you to get that color and that no other dealer in the area has one and you really want to buy that car today. Think you will get a good deal? Only if the dealer takes pity on your stupidity.

BTW - the only reason the Iranians "held the cards" was they knew were dealing with incompetent fools, like the ones who continue to support these idiots.

Dude, they needed a deal FAR more than we did. Their country was being crippled by sanctions. And you tell them: either release the hostages and we can start to negotiate a deal, or we bomb your facilities. Period.

Despite all their bravado and tough talk, the Iranians do not want US airstrikes on their sites. Our air force could do unbelievable damage to their country.

And we wouldn't have to go alone. Many of the Arab countries HATE Iran. We could have brought some/all of them along. Additionally, our economy is 18 trillion dollars. Iran's is a couple hundred billion. You make the world choose. Who do you want to do business with, the US or Iran? It really isn't that hard. You just need a guy like Trump to do it. But we don't have a guy like him in office to play the right cards.

I'm not trying to sound like a tough guy here. I really think this is the only way to deal with Iran. They probably would have caved, we would have gotten the hostages, and with the credible threat of force we would have gotten a much better deal. As it stands, we get nothing and Iran WILL have hundreds of nuclear bombs in 10 years. And that's assuming they don't cheat in the meantime.

And if they don't cave, bomb their sites. What are they going to do? Target our civilians and military personnel? They have been doing that for 35 years. They killed thousands of US soldiers in Iraq. Payback is a bitch.

You got it. As I've said 175,657,674,283,954 times, this is the giant, fatal weakness with Obama. He doesn't know how to negotiate. Big long term threat to our national security in so many ways.

Also an example of his lack of wisdom - not understanding his own shortfalls and getting good advisors to fill in what he lacks. Instead, incompetent cronies.

    Again, you got it.

Curious, what business are you in? You'd likely be good in my business.

The business of online punditry isn't very profitable but it's certainly a satisfying way to pass one's waning years.

As for Trump, it's good to see him stand up to the Republican Establishment, such as it is.

Love him or hate him, Trump communicates.

Jeb Bush should patent the phrase "On the other hand". Even for those of us who'd love to see a moderate in office, Jeb Bush is a bore who says nothing, ever.
