Comics such as those by Marvel and DC are incredibly open and respectful of their portrayal of gays.

    Anime meanwhile is not.

The average mainstream anime portrays gay men as effeminate and predatory.

    Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet:

Main character is chased and ambiguously assaulted by three transvestite club owners.

    Gurren Lagann:

Leeron; while arguably one of the most badass scientists ever, is predatory and age does not bother him. Young and cute is his type.

    Fairy Tail:

Bob is the master of the Blue Pegasus Wizard Guild and therefor one of the most powerful wizards in the world. But he has the personality of a 40-something who wears ruffled shirts, collects antique Faberge poodle statues, and has breakfast with mother on Tuesdays.

It is sad that Japanese animation sees LGBT members as a group of people that they can make fun off at their expense. If the LGBT community in Japan was more vocal, perhaps they would be taken more seriously D:

Yeah gays in mainstream anime are just what you'd call "okama", they're transvetites who are, like people said, predatory.

In western comics of course, you have a lot more diversity and the gay men aren't just gimmicks but actual characters.

Of course, if we're talking about non-mainstream manga/anime it's a whole new playing field.

One side is the Boy-Love that is mostly targetted for women.

Most of them still follow a script of a very dominant, masculine, taller and stronger top and a passive, effeminate bottom. There are exceptions but most follow this norm. These tend to have more focus on the emotional connection between character rather than the sex.

The other one is Bara that's mainly targetted for gay men.

There is some more variety here, but generally these have pretty thin plots and mainly revolves around sex, much like your oridinary porn. Having a more intricate plot simply just doesn't really fit into this medium, imagine if you saw a gay porn trying to explain Descartes at the same time.

Anime is notorious for it's poor representation. Women are also represented as tits on legs. Just another reason to avoid it entirely.

Animus saidYes, no. Especially the anime for Naruto. When an anime introduces hundreds filler episodes in between ever 30 or 50 actual episodes I totally lose respect for it. The manga was pretty good and actually ended last year.

As for my favorite, I really like DanMachi from the spring 2015 season.

    Never heard of it...

AttisXVI saidHow are you nerds not mentioning Kill La Kill?

aka the sexiest action anime of all time that gives men equal oversexualization

How can you not get excited when this show is responsible for hundreds of attractive men worldwide using cosplay as an excuse to be naked.

But Marvel is a lot more "open".

AB1804 saidGrew up watching Dragon Ball Z, and digimon.

However, I enjoyed Naruto/Shippuden (Sp?) but the filler episodes are ridiculous, recently went through a 5 month filler arc >.>

    Bleach
Fairy Tail is my current favorite. Its got high drama, hilarious situations and dialogue, and a whole host of great character personalities.

    Gotta get used to them.

One of the best Baras is called "Priapus"

    tumblr_nbutymctaG1thoclpo1_500.jpg

About a god who enters the mortal world to turn all men gay and thus cause an end to population growth in humanity.

It comes with some choice humor.
