GOP Missouri Governor Candidate “No Longer Gay” Thanks to “Religious Conversion Therapy” – Will Fight for “Traditional Family Values”

Missouri State Sen. Bob Dixon (R) said his “religious experience” to become a heterosexual occurred in 1988. Having been gay for five years before then, Dixon likely underwent “religious conversion therapy,” a method that insane evangelicals use to “turn” gay people straight. Many young men whose parents think they’re gay are forced into this pseudo-therapy.

check his closet. I'm sure it's filled with sequins, high heels and a strap on dildo.

Interesting that people fall all over each other rushing to congratulate transgenders, but only heap scorn on obviously troubled people who make changes of similar magnitude like this guy. He may be deserving of it if this is purely for politics but, only he knows that. If these cures are as bogus as most, including me, think they are, it might be better to reserve judgment for a few months until the "charm" wears off, and he's back to his old tricks, if he already isn't on the sly.

Liberal Democrat Mayor DeBlasio of NYC converted his wife from a proud lesbian to heterosexual. Chirlane had been a lesbian for decades.

In 2012, when asked about her 1979 essay about being a proud lesbian, she commented: "In the 1970s, I identified as a lesbian and wrote about it. In 1991, I met the love of my life, married him."

Obama, in his January 2015 Glozell interview refers to being gay as a "lifestyle choice" (starting at 7:55):

Liberals, educate you own leaders before attacking the GOP.

You cannot change sexual orientation, it is a natural given. It is the conservatives that need to be educated to this proven fact. Conversion therapy is a failed and dangerous process that can ruin a person's life permanently. This GOP candidate was either sexually confused or he is just pandering to all the narrow minded bible thumping screwballs for their votes.

Human sexuality is complicated and a lot of people are more fluid than society wants them to be. Someone can be a Kinsey 5 and identify as gay/lesbian but meet that one member of the opposite sex who just does it for them and they fall in love.
How Mayor de Blasio make it work is no one else's business. Maybe she pegs him. Maybe she has female lovers on the side. Maybe he knows, maybe he doesn't, maybe he films it! Who cares??? His sex life is none of my business. His policies are mildly interesting but don't directly affect me and I can't vote for or against him so those policies are only mildly interesting.

I usually consider it sad when people kill themselves due to the emotional trauma caused by religious conversion therapy; but if he's gonna use his "conversion" to fight against gay rights, then he really should kill himself. I'll laugh over that one.

And this Mr Dixon needs compassion for his personal life. He may have been bi all along and now for his own reasons is choosing to live a straight(ish) life. He may be a closet case. How he lives his private life doesn't threaten me or my sexuality.
Now, if he uses his personal life as an excuse to try and take away our rights to live our lives as we see fit then we should fight him tooth and nail. But otherwise, ig ore him and move on.

Quite so. My impression though, is that his story of "successful" conversion will be used as a club to attack those who "choose" to be gay. I understand that for many with attraction for both sexes, who they choose to sleep with might actually be a choice, but for many others with attraction to only one gender (either same sex or opposite) their sexuality certainly is not a *choice* and cannot be "cured." I regard conversion therapy as deeply harmful to the individual subjected to it, whom I regard as a victim.

"...having been gay for five years..." ???

So we've gone from being an agenda to, what, mark it on your calendar? Is that an upgrade or a degradation? I can't figure it out.

I think it all comes down to how you handle such emotions. I wouldn't completely rule out that some day I could fall for a woman, although that hasn't happened yet. And if it does, I'd hope that I can simply accept it as part of who I am, without having to justify it through BS like conversion therapy, and that I would do it without throwing our community under the bus in the process.

lack of courage to be who he is, willing to twist who he is into something else, willing to use all that to fight people who are comfortable being LGBT (probably to make himself feel more secure)...

Sounds like a great guy top vote for.

I have a friend (my first boyfriend, in fact) who met a woman he loved and married her because he wanted kids. They have two great kids, seem happy - but he says the gay never went away. He chose what he wanted, and I think you have to respect that, if both parties are aware and supportive.

An older tradition than what we follow permits a man to have multiple wives. Thus, if he really wants to be traditional, he will push for that here.

Shows what some politicians will do to win votes. Can we really be surprised?

PS: How do we know he is "no longer gay"? To be completely Sheldonesque, has he performed coitus with a woman with witnesses?

Although the second part of your paragraph sounds like it was written by a reasonable man, the first sentence is utter shit. What the fuck does gender identity have to do with sexual orientation? People are literally born with male parts and female-oriented brains (and vice versa). And some are literally born with NOT-so-male parts (and vice versa) whose pediatricians attempted to narrow down for the birth certificate. Surely you've read about this, or know someone who fits this.

Plus, surgery. Describe the surgery that makes a gay man straight (if it's purely a choice issue).

And his "conversion" was in 1988. I'm sure the charm has already worn off.
