Why are most people on the cardio machines watching The Food Network?

Aren't they setting themselves up for failure? Or is watching some lardass bake with cheese some motivational tactic of which I'm unaware.

Because when they are done torturing themselves on the treadmill, they will go home and put the excess weight back on by gobbling all the high fructose corn syrup contaminated crap in monumental quantities and than sit on their ass incessantly belching and farting being depressed over why they are still fat slobs.icon_cool.gif

I'll usually just leave it on whatever channel it was on when I got there. Put my headphones in and play some music while I run.

Why do some people care more about what others are doing in the gym than their own workout? (unless you're watching hot guys, then it's understandable)

It's like dangling a carrot in front of a mule - it keeps them moving in the hope that they will eventually reach that chocolate soufflé.

At my gym it's Fox News, ESPN and CBS. A food program would be a welcome respite.

Well, I only care because during the 60 minutes I spend on the arc trainer my eyes are inevitably gonna fall on the TV screens around me, which invariably are tuned into some fat Food Network doyenne sautéing cheese balls. I can overcome that but I don't need to see that. Yet if I were watching a movie on my iPad they'd probably complain at the nude scenes inevitable in any R-rated movie.

Think of it as a form of demotivational tutoring. People are trying to lose weight, and in the process they can see what they'll look like if they continue the eating habits they have.
