KINGSTON, Jamaica – Just over a month ago, several social media users speculated about a possible Gay Pride parade in Jamaica. Did it actually occur?

OBSERVER ONLINE obtained a photograph today, which shows participants at what appears to be Jamaica’s first Gay Pride celebration.

That's kinda funny in an ironic way, because lately there have been a rash of shootings and anti-gay violence at the Pride events in more "accepting" nations, yet the most vehemently anti-gay Caribbean nation had one with no reported violence (so far).

Maybe Jamaican society is getting used to gays now?

Or maybe it wasn't publicized. No announcement. No press release. Just a picture with less than 15 people in it. Even the news story's tagline expresses uncertainty as to whether it was a pride celebration or not. I don't know Jamaica well enough to know that's not a picture in someone's back yard. So I wouldn't start tooting the horn of Caribbean acceptance just yet.

    Would be cool though.

It was undisclosed. Actress Ellen Page was there.

That was pretty much my thought--though I guessed a hotel, not a home--by looking at the very cropped picture with that manicured hedge and the fancy bollards along the curb.

All understandable, however, given the situation there.
