Hi everyone. We all know big meaty thighs are sexy. How many times have I wanted a guy to just crack my skull between those massive gams and be done with it? Countless. But anyway, I'm trying to develop my own pair of big legs for myself, but my difficulty lies in that my gym is tiny and doesn't have any of the leg extension/press/curl machines you get elsewhere. My routine as it stands is kettle bell swings, deadlift, squat, and standing calf raise. That's it. What can I add in there with just free weights? Should I just switch gyms? Am I gonna have to start running?? (Ugh). Thanks, junkies icon_cool.gif

Lunges both standing and walking. Goblet squats straight leg deadlifts hack squats with a bar do your legs then bike.
Walk the stairs or use the stair climber.

Slow lunges carrying dumb bells and heavy heavy squats for sure don't do repetitive low stress stuff.

You have everything you need. The machines you list don't stand a chance against squat and deadlift. The kettle bell swings are a bit out of place, but you could use the kettle bells for lunges.

Your trainer should show you how to do a proper squat. Your legs will be massive.

    Should be under bodybuilding.

Nothing beats high volume, moderate to high reps, leg work.

When I was 28, I had 28 inch thighs from riding my bike around in high gear all day in Lincoln, NE. I'm 5'5".

Think about who has the biggest legs. Bikers? Guys who push sleds. Bodybuilder who do moderate to high rep leg works. You can infer a fairly reasonable conclusion there. If you're doing less than 8 reps, you lifting to low, in general, although, from time to time that's o.k.

Follow my instagram (gudgelcl) to see the leg pump.

If you're doing it rightly, your legs will not like stairs when you are done.

When I saw the title of your post it brought back a memory of a girl I grew up with. She was shall we say plus-sized? During recess I used to yell "Thunder thighs! Thunder thighs!" at her as she tried to catch me during tag. You may think this was cruel, but I did so only after she called me an ugly loser during a game of dodge ball.

For the record, I was neither ugly nor a loser.

    Take up ice/inline/roller skating.

Skaters have the best legs and buns (I speak from experience!).

Hmm. Not sure if this thread should go under Bodybuilding or Sex/Adult section. icon_lol.gif

Look, you don't need to squat the weight of a compact car to get big legs. Take a look at some athletes that have big legs..

    - Soccer players
    - Rugby players
    - Track/field
    - Track cyclists

The common connection: All these athletes do short term, fast paced, burst leg movements. Not saying that doing those sports/activities are a substitute for weightlifting. But you should consider adding them to your current leg routine. It will likely help you achieve your goals sooner.

    Exercises to include:

Squats (if you're not already doing them)

    Sumo squats

    jumping squats

    lunges (forwards, backwards, lateral)

    Bulgarian squats

for size, you want low/medium rep range with medium (70% 1RM) or heavy (80-90% 1RM) weight.

Also, think about sprint intervals and plyometrics.

This looks awesome but I went on a mountain bike course and crashed into a tree and screwed up my knee. I've been traumatized ever since.

Thick thighs are not all that great - first, you can never find a pair of jeans at the mall. Second, the chaffing from constantly rubbing together is terrible. Last, and probably worst of all, there is no place for your "package" to go.
Trust me, you do not want thick thighs. But, then again, being able to squat 350+ for reps is pretty phucking awesome...

You so want thick thighs : shopping for jeans that don't fit, gets you more attention from the gay sales guy who always says , "honey, your body is craaazy, but we'll find something!"

Squat until you feel like you're going to shit out your anus.

Farmer Squat until you feel like you're going to get stuck that way and need Dorothy's grease can to fix yourself.

Put on a heavy back pack, put some things into two canvas bags, hang on to them - go for a walk ( been preaching this one on RJ for years).

This is wrong. Leg press is far more effective for muscular hypertrophy than squat, and that's been studied many, many, times, by universities all over The World.

Leg press.. Hack squat. A standard squat isn't bad, but, if it's big legs that you're after, leg press will get you there much faster.

Thanks to everyone who replied, and sorry this ended up in the wrong section. Adding lunges and jumps and (maybe) sprints to my leg day. Stay cute everyone :-*
