The film hasn't even been released yet, and all I'm hearing from people are claims that it's been whitewashed. The only thing we've seen is a two minute trailer.

The director has confirmed that Marsha and Sylvia will play their proper roles in the story.

IMDB has a listing for Marsha P Johnson in the cast.

Jesus fucking christ. Can we PLEASE, as a community, STOP grabbing out pitchforks before things even happen? This is getting ridiculous.

Even assuming this warps the story, it may help to encourage people see this film, and then open up a dialog about what actually happened.

Quite a bit less ridiculous than the WHITES FIRST and WHITES ONLY, BLACKS ONLY, NO ASIANS etc. Jim Crow attitude of the gay community. I wish we could PLEASE as a "community" practice what we preach when it comes to equality and inclusion instead of pushing white gays front and center 24/7 in every aspect of gay culture, entertainment, and representation -- and segregating out nonwhites.

White supremacy is the gay community's dirty little secret. I guess that's why some are shutting down any questioning of why segregation is so prevalent in the gay community, and why every gay cast has to 99%-100% white.

Our LGBT community is a different one from the straight community but is still influanced heavily from the latter. We all grew up in it.
We really need to be true to the inclusive ideals our elder community members tried to embody.
I know I'm white and male and comfortable as such. But like most of you I was excludedl, picked on, made to feel less than for something I could not control or understand.
Isn't that a good common ground to build on?
Or are we gonna be a microcosm of the larger community that is kept bickering thus making us impotent to enact positive change that is contrary to the fat cats agenda and not our own?

I absolutely agree with this. For the longest time I was one of those "sorry, only into white dudes" guys until a good friend checked me on that, and really got me to consider how horrible that mindset is.

My point was that we may need to actually see this flick before kicking into outrage mode. If it does turn out to ignore the fact that the majority of the patrons at the Stonewall were racial minorities I'll absolutely call bullshit on the whole thing.

But this has the possibility of educating the heteros out there, many of whom have NO IDEA what the Stonewall riots even are, or why they are so important to the gay rights movement.

I don't blame you for feeling that way. It's just the irony in this photo that makes me chuckle.
