The lack of views on this thread - not to mention lack of replies - shows that the White House is leaps and bounds more progressive and accepting than the majority of RJ members who call themselves "progressive." icon_wink.gif

Because my pictures depict my face and there are no drawings of a reindeer? icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

Anyway, this piece of news deserved a better response, no matter who posted it

Maybe because most people believe that you should be qualified for the position and not whether you're the first transsexual, transvestite, hermaphrodite, or whatever to hold the position.

What makes you think this person isn't qualified for the job?

The fact that is a trans-person makes a positive statement for all young trans-children out there who lack of role models.

I remember when, in 11th June 2006, the man who is now President of the Criminal Court of Spain talked during an interview about his husband whom he had married the previous October. I turned 18 that very day and it gave me a message of hope: you can be gay and achieve anything you aim for in this country, only three months later I met the guy who was my first boyfriend, even though that had seemed unthinkable to me just months before.

Trans-women of colour have to fight a bigger fight, and they need as many role models as there can be for them to realise they can also achieve what they want.

I never said I didn't think the person wasn't qualified for the job. I was answering paulflexes question as to why no one was commenting.

People on this site are so ready to infer things that you post instead of reading the actual words and context in which they were written. It makes you wonder if they teach reading comprehension in schools any more.

It might also help if the link to the article worked.

You are right, I shouldn't have inferred what I thought your thoughts were beyond what you had written.icon_biggrin.gif

I should have been readier to infer people don't open threads with links that don't work [fixed it, thanks to your comment], even though they have no way of knowing wether the link works or not before viewing the thread.
