I am so disgusted by this Ashely Madison data dump. I have a unhealthily huge disdain for delusional ideas. This idea that Ashely Madison was a problem or that this will do anything to stem cheating is ridiculous. This is about a group of self aggrandizing assholes pushing there view of what it take to be a good human on the rest of us. People cheat. People will cheat. I have cheated. I am deeply ashamed of my cheating but I have done so. People also have open relationships and arrangements. Putting peoples personal sexual habits, habits they were assured would be private, is malicious and cruel. People will loose their job for this. I read an article that adultery is illegal in the military so people could be imprisoned for this. All of this in the guise of morality. I refuse to look anyone up or click on any article or thread shaming anyone for being on that site

One thing that bothers me is that not everyone on Ashely Madison is a cheater. Swingers and open relationships are not as uncommon as people think. Yet there will be people whose personal sexual habits will now be on display for anyone including disapproving bosses to query.

its the interweb; there is a lot to be said about being personally careful. Think again if web sites, banks, retail will spend a cent more than they have to.

My problem is not that the data was available to be stolen. Many users used gift cards and fake email addresses. My problem is with the mentality of the hackers who saw their action as a moral good. My problem is with all of the people applauding this data dump. My problem is with the people shaming others and publicizing the names of people on the list which is only done to shame others. This isn't going to do a damn thing to stop people from cheating. I'm a gay, half way good looking massage therapist. I get straight men trying to cheat on there wife with me all the time. A friend of mine has even more straight dudes hitting on him. People will always find a place and way to cheat if they want to cheat. All of this adulation over exposing cheaters is self serving. No greater good is actually being done.

I pretty much agree with what the OP said, EXCEPT, people like the Duggars, who preach strict morality, and preach against homosexuality, then turn around and molest children and cheat on their spouses, and watch pornography, deserve to be brought down, whether by hackers, or any other means.

BTW, my argument is not against watching porn or having sex with people other than one's spouse. My argument is against the hypocrisy of the Duggar family.

the actual hack happen a while back. My thinking is they hoped to sell the data to the highest bidder or just let it go out on the internet.

i do agree with the OP

Sexual practice is private but it is nothing to be ashamed about. Most cultures shame certain sexual practices and that makes sex private. Private = bad/sinful. "Peoples' rules and what they do are often different things."

My understanding is they were demanding Ashely Madison shut down. When the company did not comply they dumped the data.

I have no sympathy for ANY 'conservative', right wing nut job republican that get themselves caught up in some form of scandal, which as we know, are piling up by the hour, especially in the last few years.

We can officially term these people, sociopathic 'train wrecks' and hope the spirit angels will keep them out of running our country as much as possible. While blackmailing others, these people would have their finger on the nuke button threatening to kill us all and then laugh like Hyena's, or at least like Linda Blair in the Exorcist after she killed Father Lankester Merrin icon_rolleyes.gif

QueertyFirst Josh Duggar, now the executive director of the Louisiana GOP, Jason Doré, has been outed for having an Ashley Madison profile. But the “family values” advocate insists it was strictly for “opposition research.”

"Research," eh? How much did ya bill LAGOP for that? icon_wink.gif

Anti-Gay Christian YouTube Star: God Has Forgiven Me For Trying To Cheat With An Ashley Madison Account

    The jokes just write themselves!

    http://www.joemygod.com/2015/08/22/anti-gay-christian-youtube-star-god-has-forgiven-me-for-trying-to-cheat-with-an-ashley-madison-account-video/

Joe.My.God.Christian YouTube star Sam Rader, who first came to our attention for a viral clip in which he tried to convince his five year-old daughter that gay marriage is a very bad thing, has been busted for having an Ashley Madison account. Last night Rader posted a clip in which he announces that Jesus has already forgiven him.

    Related: "Get The Net!"

    http://www.sacurrent.com/Blogs/archives/2015/08/21/sam-rader-of-the-texas-christian-vlogging-couple-sam-and-nia-is-also-an-ashley-madison-user

CurrentIf you’ve been on the internet the past few weeks, you may know of the Terrell, Texas, couple’s pregnancy announcement.

The viral video featured Sam sneaking a sample of his wife’s urine, performing a pregnancy test, and breaking the news to Nia she was pregnant. The husband told the wife! What a novel twist!

Then things got sad. Three days later, the couple announced that Nia had miscarried in a video titled “Our Baby Had A Hearbeat,” garnering sympathy from strangers around the world.

Then things got weird. A few days later, Buzzfeed reported that the entire viral sensation was staged. According to doctors who spoke with the site, an accurate positive result was unlikely given the fact the test used diluted urine.

The Raders admitted the pregnancy was never confirmed by a doctor. Then things got sad again, but in a different way.

The couple responded to the allegations and claimed that the entire hoax (and it was a hoax) was staged by God. The two claimed they were being persecuted for their Christian faith because their quest for internet fame quickly backlashed.

The Raders’ victim complex was impressive. Rader and his wife, whose fidelity and devotion are a lynchpin to their online persona, deleted a video earlier this summer titled “Kids Reacts to Gay Marriage.” According to Buzzfeed, the video showed the couple trying to coax a negative response on gay marriage from their 5-year-old daughter after she said gay couples should be able to get married if they want to.

What about the exposed users that are gay in illegal countries? They're about to get hit within the crossfire as well.

I have no sympathy for anyone who joined that site and is now being exposed. It's karma. That's the life they've chosen for themselves, and now the authorities will have to deal with the hackers.

I'm confused. I thought Ashely Madison was a straight only sight. Even if it had a gay option how would anyone know who they were conversing with?

They owned other sites that were for gays which was included in the data dump.

    Agreed.

Believe it or not, there's actually way more privacy these days, which widens the disconnect between people's true selves vs what they project to the world. In the old days, you literally have to talk to another person and risk being overheard. People who pontificate about having the right to do whatever they want in private have no concept of social responsibility, and probably have never seen Cloud Atlas... "our lives are not our own"

Ashley Madison is for gay people too, although I haven't seen the percentages, but I read that women comprise only 5 percent of the members. Women can send emails for free, but men have to pay for it. What else is new?
