That someone who is not confident in their looks would be hesitant to take advantage of a modeling opportunity? I have a friend who was approached by a famous photographer to shoot him, and he flaked. When I asked him about it he just say's "I'm going to look in to it", but I know he did not respond to the assistants e-mail. All he does is work, eat junkfood, workout excessively and post to instagram. I don't know if he is dealing with depression or what, because I don't know why he would not take advantage of that type of opportunity.

Just because you would love an opportunity like he has (and are obvs peanutbutter and jealous!) doesn't mean he wants to be "shot" for a modeling gig.

Live and let live, bro. Live and let live.

As a photographer who's shot models, I wouldn't bother with the ones who showed even the slightest hesitation or lack of confidence.

Tell him not to regret it. It's just another experience to learn from.

It all depends on the person, he may feel insecure or he just may not be interested

Modeling isn't all that's cracked up to be. Models are some of the most self conscious people I've ever met. I believe it might be due to the high competition of the industry, and major rejections people face. Not to mention you are surrounded by gorgeous people every time you apply for a job, and those are the people you have to fight the job for.

Note you can have the most great physical shape body but if your proportions are off or something doesn't look right then you are easily tossed aside, not to mention you need to have "the look".

While the guy in the second picture is really fit, just looking at him he would never go far in the higher end of the fashion industry. He can work as a fitness model, but there are plenty of those guys around. The guys who are rare to find have high cheekbones, and have something that just stands out about their face.

According to a famous female model, (can't remember her name right now) said "you can be whatever you want to be, why chose to be a model?"

I did one of this guy's first photo shoots. During that shoot, I advised him to go to some of the legit modeling agencies on South Beach and show his portfolio (after giving him prints). He did, and was signed exclusive with one of the best in less than a week. Last I heard, he's still working full-time with the big folks.

Superb. How long did it take to get this shot just above? How much planning and set up and attempts, with lighting, angles, &c?

About 5 minutes. I had the idea in mind before we met up for the shoot.

Exactly it really shows in the pix if a person is lacking those. icon_cool.gif

Pretty much. The "deer in the headlights" look is what you always get when shooting folks who have too much apprehension. It works well in amateur adult work, but not with what I prefer to shoot.

Some people just don't want the attention.. he may regret it, or he may look back and be thankful he said no.. Don't judge others by your own views.. they may not think the same way..

    curious?
did or was your friend considered "less" attractive as a teenager?
I meet a lot of guys like this, who get very uncomfortable about being told how hot they are and more often then not I find out they were fat or had bad teeth; something, when they were young.

Yup, he was very skinny growing up. He has bulked up significantly recently through working out and "supplements". Since he is constantly using the hashtag #model and #modelbody, I thought this was something that he aspired to do. I just started to wonder if his past insecurities prevented him from taking advantage of the opportunity.
