What makes people gay? (An update)

"The results, Sanders says, offer more solid evidence of genes’ influence on what makes people gay. But he also admits that genes likely play a lesser role in sexual orientation than the 40 percent estimate he gave me a decade ago. Now, he puts it around 30 percent, with lots of work still to be done on which genes may be involved and how. That means two-thirds of the answer will have to come from somewhere else."

I love this in the article: "Northwestern psychologist J. Michael Bailey, a well-known skeptic of male bisexuality, now confirms it’s real."

    Well, no shit, Sherlock.

You needed confirmation on that, huh?

Thus confirming what I've always suspected to be real: people are idiots.

If you're really good in your past life you get to come back as gay.

The person in question does since there is no natural state of "being gay".

For me, being gay is a much bigger part of who I am than race, religion, nationality, cut/uncut, education, class, etc could ever be, because love is much more important than social status, skin color, cultural heritage or belief system.

I am gay because of nothing. I simply am attracted to men like a straight is attracted to women. People cannot help who they are attracted to. Why do people need a reason for being who they are?

Scientists have estimated it is an inbalance of Chromosones and Testosterone, during pregnancy. Then that first sexual-experience, by choice or by mishap, does the trick. As one grows older, Boob's , may be a fantasy or a 'Big-bulge' may be better. As Lady Gaga sings, "Cause' baby, I was born that way".

You feel something funny in your dick if you see a really hot guy in his Red speedo running on the beach like in the baywatch scene. That or you just like penises. icon_razz.gificon_razz.gificon_razz.gificon_redface.gif

Like almost everything else, sexual orientation is a combination of genes and environment.

This really shouldn't be a controversial issue, but it becomes one because uneducated people think if it isn't 100% genetic then gays exercise some degree of control over who they're attracted to. This is of course completely ridiculous, as children don't choose their early hormonal/social environment any more than they do their own genes.

The more I'm around "str8" guys, the more it appears to me that the difference between a gay guy and a str8 guy isn't the desire to have sex with men, but the willingness to do something about it...

When I came out to my mother she didn't take it well. So I told her it was her fault I was gay. Whether genes or upbringing, either way I didn't make myself gay. It came from her.

You are correct, it is all in the Jeans. Hot guys in skinny jeans with big bulges and tight buns, or guys in jeans with big bulges...whatever! It is all in the Jeans and what's under that zipper.

I agree 100%. Almost all straight men are actually bi to some degree.

I think it's heavily genetic in my case.

I learned when I cam out to my aunt, that back in the 70's my father was a rampant late-blooming hippie who was into the "free love" with anyone and everyone who'd offer it to him. Notoriously Bi, until he committed to and married my mother.

And I learned that Dad's frined that I had called "Uncle" all my life may very well have been Dad's boyfriend before Dad married Mom.

I never knew Dad well... he passed when I was 7, but I never got the inkling that my Uncle was gay... until my Aunt told me.

    /shrug/ genetics.

They always find some link...and then nothing. Or in this case there wasn't another follow-up of nothing for 10 years. Researchers can be worse than Michael Sam when it comes to attention and wanting to be the first to do something. They just want their names to be credited with figuring this out, which is why there will always be a new "finding" that doesn't conclusively prove much of anything.

Receipts? Does this mean almost all gay men are actually bi to some degree too?

Yes. The majority of straight men have same-sex attractions and most gay men still have attractions to women. My therapist friends have told me this repeatedly over the years.

There are people who are strictly one or the other but they are a rare exception.
