I'm heading to NYC next week and will be trying to keep fit while away from my gym. I'll be staying in Chelsea part of the time and the Upper West Side the other part and wanted to know what outdoor workout areas are your favorite (scenic, not too crowded, etc).

I'm looking for places where I can run/sprint and/or do calisthenic workouts so pull up bars, parallel bars, rings and other similar equipment would be ideal. Thanks in advance

I live in the East Village and go running along the East River. There's a track with an outdoor workout area next to it. I run down 10th Street to the East River and then take a right when I get there...the track is nearby. If you go further south, there's a new workout area but it's normally pretty crowded.

There's also a court and a workout area in Tompkins Square Park on 10th Street.

Here's a link to fitness equipment in NYC parks.

I'd imagine that the Upper West Side's Riverside Park (not familiar with specific areas these days) would be the nicest and LEAST crowded venue since it's off the beaten path.

Riverside Park is beautiful. I used to live in Washington Heights and would run along the Hudson River down to Harlem and back. I miss running there.
