London preacher who called for gays to be killed now facing terror charges

Radical London preacher Anjem Choudary, who previously called for gay people to be stoned to death, is set to face trial on terror charges after allegedly encouraging support for ISIS.
The 47-year-old is the former UK head of the Islamist group al-Muhajiroun or Islam4UK, which was banned in the UK in 2010.

He suggested at a press conference in 2009 that gay people should be stoned to death, and has maintained that stance since.

I think the only reason he has not been arrested and charged before now is that the police and security services have been monitoring him and have probably gained a lot of useful intel as a result.

Not Gtmo - that's only for terrorists captured overseas, and it exists solely to circumvent procedural rights (speedy trial, habeas corpus, etc.) that would apply on US soil.
Terrorists convicted after trial in a US court go to the federal Supermax prison in CO. This includes the Shoe Bomber, the Underwear Bomber, the Boston Marathon bomber, etc.

Supermax is far more grim than Gtmo since it means being immured in a windowless concrete cell 23 hours a day.

Let's be clear, he is facing terrorism charges because he was advocating for, and possibly recruiting for, ISIL, not because of his advocacy for stoning gays to death.

If he had lived in the US, Fox News would have picked up the story to praise him, while other networks would have condemned him...but that's as far as it would have went. Then he'd cry "anti-religious discrimination blah blah blah" and got away with it.

He'd be a Fox "News" contributor by now.

Yep, it's just now catching up with where Christianity left off a few hundred years ago.

The former boss of the mysterious California lawyer behind a state ballot proposal that would mandate executing gay people said on Tuesday that he hopes the public will show no mercy on his old employee.

“Go after him with a knife and fork,” Bruce C. Bridgman told TPM when reached by phone.

Now semi-retired, Birdgman heads a firm, The Law Office of Bruce C. Bridgman, that in 2002 briefly employed Matthew Gregory McLaughlin, who has been unreachable since news broke of his now-infamous "Sodomite Suppression Act."

"My own personal opinion here is that he has crossed the line, between free speech and advocating illegal conduct," Bridgman, a former deputy district attorney for both Los Angeles and Orange County, told TPM.

Despite his outrageous proposal, McLaughlin's past remains foggy: Aside from another failed ballot initiative in 2004 — lobbying to make the Bible required reading in public schools — he hasn't made much of a splash in Orange County since he began his practice in 1998. The State Bar website says that his license remains active

He's the kind of person who needs to be targeted by these "crazed" shooters.
