A friend of mine from Houston sent me this link to a NYT article about Texas A&M graduate Phil Frye, now Phyllis Frye, who was a transgender pioneer from Houston. The article is long, but worth a read to learn more about the struggles of transgendered people.

I'm not an advocate for transgendered people, and don't have any friends that are transgendered. But I think as gay people who have had our struggles, we can admire and respect transgendered people. They, in my opinion, need to have even more character and fortitude than we gay people, to become who they really are in our society.
