Good. I gather she can't be fired because she was elected. Surely there's a legal mechanism to remove an elected official if they've been found to have failed to perform the tasks of the office in contempt of the judicial branch.

Federal judge jails Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis for refusing to issue marriage licenses
    BY JOHN CHEVES

ASHLAND— A federal judge jailed Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis Thursday after finding her in contempt of court for ignoring his order to issue marriage licenses.

U.S. District Judge David Bunning ordered Davis to remain in jail until she agrees to comply with his Aug. 12 order. She was led from the courtroom by U.S. marshals just after 1 p.m.

Bunning also told five deputy clerks who work for Davis that they have until 1:45 p.m. to decide whether they will comply with his order to issue marriage licenses or join Davis in jail.

Davis, an Apostolic Christian, has refused to give anyone a marriage license since the U.S. Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage June 26, citing her religious objections. A half-dozen local couples are suing her.

Davis was tearful while testifying about her religious faith during the hearing but stoic as marshals led her to jail.

Bunning told Davis he has his own religious beliefs as a Catholic, but public officials must respect the law.

"In this country, we live in a society of laws," Bunning said.

Plaintiffs in the case had asked Bunning to fine Davis, but specifically requested that he not jail her. But Bunning said fines would not work because others might raise money to pay the penalty on her behalf.

The judge has given employees of the clerk's office until 1:45 edt to decide whether they will issue licenses as ordered by the US Supreme Court, or join Kimberly in jail.

An NPR story I read says the options are impeachment or holding her in jail until she complies or jail the bitch until the end of her term, four years from now.

I look forward to the Conservative headlines:

    Jesus Jailed!

    or the more dramatic:

Gay Agenda: The Jailing of Jesus

(which coincidentally we did have scheduled for a Thursday)

and then there will be the political buttons:

    Jail Jesus for Gay Rights

Bumper stickers: I was Jesus's Jail Bitch

Todd Starnes from Fox News has already issued the anticipated misleading headline that says she was jailed for her religion.

Best deal is Judge Bunning set no bail to spring her free, so any GoFundieMe pages are pretty much all for naught! icon_biggrin.gif

Mike Huckabee tweeted, "Kim Davis in Federal custody removed all doubts about the criminalization of Christianity in this country. We must defend #ReligiousLiberty!"

Huckabee, Starnes and those like them are losing credibility with their own audiences. Intuition would have us believe fundamentalists would be the least likely to vote for Trump. One night this week O'Reilly led off with a story about how the numbers really stack up. It was quite interesting. They too are sick and tired of the same empty rhetoric that's been dished out for more than 16 years. I can't find the poll he cited but the fundamentalists who will not vote for Trump was down in the 30 percentiles. In other words, Huckabee's relevance is nil. Most real people in the US are ready to put gay marriage away and move on to other things. And the worn out rhetoric about them being the ones who're being discriminated against doesn't cut it with the majority of Christians anymore. They see through it.

It's called separation of church and state. In Islam you keep hearing about those clerics and immams. Over there the priests are also the lawyers because all of the laws flow from the Koran. Everywhere else in the world there is a separation of church and state. And unfortunately for the right wing bible thumpers, the court has precedence when deciding what's legal and illegal.

Poor ol' Mike. Sometimes it's better to shut up and let people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove it.

Governor Huckabee has jumped on this gravy train and will be collecting fares from its passengers as long as he can. Huckabee knows there are lots of stupid, misinformed people and he is committed to providing them with representation.
