What could you simply NOT live without, and I mean there is no way in this world you'd give it up, in today's modern world?

I ran my mind through my rooms
..To see if I could spare
Any of the stuff of life
    ..That I have gathered there.

I have a fine and noble bed
..With which I'd hate to part
And when I first slept in it
..I felt like a king at heart

I have books by the hundreds
..Some in cases I built of oak
    Each was a beautiful journey
..Through time and space I took

    My little laptop computer
    ..Always keeps me company
How I would live without it
    ..Is to me a mystery

But my life would go on
    ..Sans computer, books and bed
Yes, I would go on living
    ..And not wish myself dead

So my mind in a higher sphere
    ..Searched for a greater yearning
And I discoverd I could not live
..If I could not go on learning

...otherwise, it would be chocolate eclairs ... icon_lol.gif

Men. Without them I just climb to the top of a 12 storey building and jump over.

There is no "thing" without which I could not live, in the metaphorical sense.

Yes, we need water, we need oxygen, we need food, we need shelter. But that's not what I think Stormy is asking.

Would my life be diminished through the loss of some things or some people? Absolutely. The thought of losing my partner, for example, is terrifying to me. But I would live - as would he.

Likewise, I'd prefer not to lose my sight, or my hearing, or my ability to move about independently. But people have endured these things, and I trust that I would find the strength to do so as well.

When I read questions like this, I'm somehow saddened that we place so much emphasis on externals for our happiness. I believe that to be truly healthy (and I'm not there yet, I'm just working on it) you have to find your worth from within.

All that having been said, keep your fucking hands off my bbq bacon cheeseburger!

I don't think I could live without my man. We're ridiculously codependent, so I'd probably just sort of shuffle around looking despondent if I lost him. It's what I do when he's out of the room.

On a less soppy level, WINE! Life-giving, nourishing, problem-erasing wine.

I would love to be able to say something noble and thoughtful, something that made others stop and wonder or reflect. And while I might be able to rack my brain, I have found 2 things true about this, as I have thought of it a great deal.

    1. I don't miss certain things until I realize they are being taken away, and sometimes those things need to be taken away or show me for the self-absorbed prick that I am. I'm too ashamed of myself to mention an example.

    2. I once lost everything while living in a foreign country, and it almost included my life. After the stress was over, it was one of the most cathartic and amazing things that has ever happened to me, or that my ability to fuck up has caused. I am reminded of Baron M√ľnchhausen who said something like, and that was one of the many times I died, an experience I would never hesitate to recommend.

Other than that I'd say sushi.

I'd have to say my mind. it is the source of my thoughts and my imagination. My creativity. It is what draws people to me and what pushes people away. My safe haven from a boring day, my alternative for sex during a drought.

Its what makes me like men, play music, draw, paint and write. It is what helps me help others during their many times of need. It is what gives me my many passions.

As different as it may be at times, I love my mind and I hope that I'm always able to question and learn and grow.

Without it I just wouldn't be me and everything around me would lose that wonder that I place on it with my rational.
