Who wants to meet up for sexy fun time?

    ...or dinner...

...or a MTB ride on your local trails...

...or just to say hi. icon_biggrin.gif

Leaving from Hayward tomorrow, sometime...no time limit. I'm on hiatus from work till I decide to work again (gotta love self-employment). Totally looking forward to this "true" cross-country trip!

I wish I had the "drive" to drive across country. icon_lol.gif

You will totally have a great time, any places you plan to stop at along the way?

Forget the interstates and get reacquainted with the two lanes.

Just think, in Southern Utah alone you have Zion, Bryce, Capital Reef, Canyonland, Arches, Grand Staircase, Moab, Colorado River, etc. Moab is actually quite active this time of year.

The crowds are gone and the leaves are changing. What a wonderful time for a road trip.

A spectacular drive if you're going to Bryce National Park is head northeast out of the park on Rt 12 through Escalate to Torrey then east on Rt 24 through Capitol Reef National Park to Hanksville. Yep just one gas station on the curve from 24 to 905 south so fill up here and the go south to Blanding on 95 for what is one of the most wonderful drives in the country.

Other than a little Marina that may or may not be open, next gas is about 120 miles so make sure you're full. I generally see no one else on this road during the entire trip to Blanding.

Once in Blanding turn north for a perfectly boring drive up to Moab. You likely know all about Moab. Get the bike out and stay a while. Moab Brewery is the place to go in the evening.

Just north of Moab is route 126 to Cisco and is another spectacular drive right next to the Colorado river.

This vid is going the other direction from Eisenhower Pass to Zion, but most of this is in the area that I detailed above.

This trip was in February a few years ago so you're unlikely to run into weather similar to this.

Lucky you. Sounds like a great road trip. I love how the colour of the landscape gradually changes as you go south, from the lush green forests of southern Oregon/northern California to the sandy desert expanse at the southernmost end of the Central Valley.

Just made it home yesterday..."real" cross-country in 4 days. Didn't stop for shit but once (literally), and other than that only stopped for fuel and quick hotel stays (never slept more than 5 hrs and was back on the road). Everything between Cali and SoFla totally fucking sucks. The scenery is nice in east Cali, southern AZ, southern NM, and west TX, but every time I stopped for gas, food, and hotels I was bombarded with Jesus shit. Fuck that. I got back here to SoFla ASAP. icon_lol.gif

Sorry to read this and sorry I didn't get to you a little sooner. Sounds like you missed everything. I think you would have enjoyed a few days in Moab this time of year.

Actually though, west Texas is nice.

Welcome home, Paul. Give me a ring when you're rested & settled in. We'll plan something.

You must've taken the I-10 route. Yeah I agree it sucks but hey, I'm glad you found West Texas' scenery nice because when I drove through it heading to El Paso, I was expecting to see the Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote chasing each other. icon_biggrin.gif

Seriously, I'm glad to hear made it ok. I'll be taking the northern route back home to North Carolina next year. I expect the scenery to be much nicer than the southern route.

Except for west Texas on I-10 or better yet I-20, the southern route really sucks. I-40 is even worse. Stick with I-70 or I-80. Better yet, get OFF of the interstates. I've done 45 years of east west cross country passes, from the Trans Canadian Highway down to I-8 and I-10.

Always happy to help with trip planning. Just ask.
