Another historic first, thanks to Barack Obama, most pro-gay president in US history.

But not the first, who just happened to be a REPUBLICAN.

Yes. Off to a slow start, and more than a bit ambivalent, especially during his first Presidential campaign, which disappointed me. But as the finishing line approaches he already eclipses any US President in history on LGBT rights.

    I don't recall a pro-gay rights Republican President.

    "Age: 29"

You probably wouldn't. You weren't here yet. In fact I don't think the word 'gay' was in use yet.

    Not in your 29 years.

In fact, it's your own homosexual 'press' that make the claim.

I can't think of any President, Democratic or Republican that would be described as pro-gay rights before Obama.

The answer is probably Reagan, since he's supposed to be right on every single issue there has ever been.

    Before him.

In fact, I'd never really thought about it much, but I was a county campaign chair at the time, and hugely out, but it made no difference at all. I'd go up to people and introduce myself by stating my name and second thing I'd say is "I'm a fag"

Fanning is already serving as acting undersecretary of the Army, so I hope he's confirmed as Secretary.

In terms of policy, no President has been as pro-gay rights as Obama. End of story.

Don't you hope that is the beginning of the story and not the end?

True, not as pro-homosexual, but for his time, quite progressive.

Again, I never really thought much about it at the time, but I was outrageously out, and confrontational if need be, and never personally had any problems.

But oh! the outrage machine. The on-line comments for the Seattle Times show that all the trolls have come out of their caves, their masculinity deeply scared by this, linking their homophobia to their Obamaphobia and having a field day showing their insecurity - and ignorance of US law and procedures.
