What are your POSITIVE (not negative, but POSITIVE) stereotypes of nationalities. Control yourselves: POSITIVE only. Get it?

Argentinians are all amazingly good looking
Brazilian men all have very big... "feet" icon_eek.gif
The Dutch are utterly cool and sexy, all the time, effortlessly.

that black men are bigger.. which apparently leads to incapacitation because I have it on good authority that once you go black, you can never actually go back..

Mind you, from experience, its not the case.. they are mostly the same as everyone else

May I call mine positive "cultural traits"? Stereotypes has negative connotations, and to discuss even the "good" ones is to also endorse the validity of the bad ones, too.

Germans: punctual, no-nonsense, and very kinky sexually
British: polite to a fault, silly sense of humor, and those lovely English accents [swoon]
French: I'm still thinking about some...
Canadians: So easy going, less uptight than us in the States
Italians: Zest for life! And wonderful cooks, like both my Italian partners
    French: Still thinking...
All Scandinavians: More relaxed about getting out of their clothes than most
French: Easy to win over, with a warm smile and a compliment, preferably in their own language, and your willingness to listen to philosophical slants on everything. The sex afterwards will be dirty but intense.

From my interactions with Filipinos, I agree 100%. I worked with several for some time, and not only did they have excellent work ethics, but they were very close to their family and many of them sent large portions of their paychecks home to Manila. Also, I am aware of the US/Philippines historical connection, but I am amazed at how well Filipinos (even that don't live in the US) speak English.

    Some others:
    Albanians - Very good looking
    Croatians - Tall
Danes - LOVE to drink and can hold their liquor
    Canadians - Laid back
    French - Proud, patriotic
    Germans - Precise, timely
Japanese - Almost over-the-top hospitable, very accomodating

Only some I have developed some sort of stereotypical image with:

Japanese: Extremely creative and intelligent, have a great sense of humor which would probably go over the top of westerners but perfect for us filipinos who definitely have a weird sense of humor too.

Pacific Islanders (Hawaii, Polynesia, Guam, Micronesia, etc.): Carefree, warm, love to laugh

British: Love their humor, can be extremely polite or brazenly gregarious

Australian: Same as above with the added outdoorsy ruggedness

Irish: Same as above, additionally, independent

Iberians (Spanish/Portuguese/Basque)/Latin Americans: Romantic, passionate, sexy

French (including francophones in countries like Belgium and Switzerland): Creative, romantic, very open-minded, sensitive

    Russians: Deep thinkers, patient, tough

    Canadians: Friendly, open-minded, easygoing

Americans (nationality - as in including all races): Idealistic (different ideals for every one of them maybe, but still strong believers of their visions of the future), the sheer variety of their personalities and backgrounds, adventurous

South Asians: Artistic, spiritual, loves music and dance

Moroccans (the Imazighen particularly, better known as Berbers): Colorful, independent, spirited

    Germans: Hardworking, perfectionists, great thinkers

Scandinavians (including the Dutch): Friendly, open-minded, practical, calm

Black Africans: Proud, musically gifted and attuned to rhythm

Middle Easterners: Passionate, sexy, great appreciators of beauty

Chinese: hardworking, similar sense of humor to the Japanese, family-oriented

Himalayan People (Nepal/Bhutan/Tibet): Spiritual, warm, loyal, friendly, unique attitude towards life

Southeast Asians (including Indochina): Very rich culture, family-oriented, ingenious, friendly, easygoing

West Indies (People of the Caribbean): Easygoing, spiritual to the point of being mysterious, great sense of rhythm

Native Americans (Northern only): Proud, spiritual, friendly

That's all I can think of atm. icon_razz.gif

Sure.. I called them stereotypes as even the positive things we say about whole countries are someone "de-humanising", based on prejudice and impersonal. It's so interesting that the closer you get to an area the stronger the stereotypes are distinct. So in Latin America there is no "latino" stereotype, but there are of Argentina, Chile, Paraguay etc.

scottishwarrior saidScotsmen are right ruddy bastards, and damn well proud of it!

That would explain a lot. I have a French ancestor who fought at the Battle of Culloden in 1746. After the defeat he eventually made his way to the American colonies, with a wife he had married in Scotland. At the end of the 1800s one of their descendants married into the Dutch line of my family in the US. Before I came along their was some Irish thrown in, too, and a couple of others.

What a combination: the French, Scots, Irish & Dutch. Would there even BE any positive stereotypes resulting from that? LOL!

urbanguy911 saidItalians are gregarious and passionate.

Don't I know it! And my current Italian partner is the most talkative of the 2 I've had, almost never shuts up. Plus very passionate about everything. Half my time with him is spent trying to calm him down, as he goes from one tirade to another about absolutely anything & everything.

All his old friends, who predate my showing up, tell us both how happy they are I've made him so calm & relaxed. I tell them thanks, now when do I get my own therapist. LOL! But I do love him, and those Italians must have something I like, cause I've had 2 (the first died). Yet I never intentionally set out with a preference for Italians, it just happened that way. Interesting...

I guess there's nothing wrong with sweeping stereotypes as long as they're positive icon_smile.gif

Americans - Earnestly strive to live by high standards

Irish - Witty, friendly and intense.

Thai - Take hospitality and friendliness to a level that you just don't find in Europe.

French - Incredible sense of aesthetics.
