She's a terrific actress and the character she plays is not an easy one, it's very complex.

Viola Davis kills in that show. Looking forward to season two.

Also it was great to see Teraji Henson show her support when Viola won. You can tell she was genuinely happy for her.

Seriously, anyone who has seen the show will understand why she won. She didn't win because she was black and it isn't affirmative action or anti-white bias, she won because she is a good actress playing a complex character.

I haven't seen the show, and I didn't watch the Emmy's, but I paused @ this thread to say I'm shocked that she was first. Are you kidding me? I thought POTUS was the last glass ceiling. How far behind is Hollywood lagging? Smh.icon_confused.gif

Congratulations Viola Davis, you fall in the ranks of Whoopi Goldberg for her 'Best actress in a leading role' in the Oscar winning, Steven Spielberg 1985 film, The Color Purple. Together with Oprah Whinfrey 'Best supporting actress in a leading role.

Congrats to her (and any other firsts of anything) last night. Not an awards show guy really but can appreciate when people who are a little different than the norm win praise from the norm.

Great to see her finally get an Emmy, really a great actress. I recall seeing her in the movie - The Help and thought she was outstanding and shame she did not win an award in that movie.

I thought both Whoopie and Oprah should have won Oscars for "The Color Purple" but Hollywood can sometimes be more political than Washington politics. I watched Viola's show a handful of times and couldn't get into it. She should be grateful to be a working actress on a hit show and put aside the rest. An award is just icing on the cake.
