America is the only developed nation in the worlds that allow drug makers to set up their prices. This is absurd! In other developed countries, the government negotiates price with the drug makers so both parties can be satisfied. Unbridled capitalism at its finest. Lol.

This guy is giving the US a bad name (or a worse one) in worldwide social media. And that's besides the harm he's doing to those who rely upon this drug. His past history is rife with dishonesty & corruption, and he continues to deal with lawsuits from his former business endeavors.

Maybe this outrage will spur legislative action to prevent this kind of price gouging on drugs. No, wait, Congress is still controlled by the Republicans. They love this kinda thing, expecially if it hurts HIV/AIDS patients, whom they assume to mostly be disgusting gays And have resisted similar regulatory actions in the past, lest it cut into corporate profits. Never mind.

I have friends with HIV/AIDS. Don't you? And the conditions this drug treats occur in non-HIV patients as well, including very young children. But then neither of us are young children, nor have any, so I guess we shouldn't care about them, either, right?

Quite untrue and quite shortsighted. This kind of price-jacking is not limited to this one drug. The same is being done with other important drugs, used to treat cancer, hepatitis, and malaria. These are things that might affect you one day.

Aside from that, do you only care about things that affect you personally, and if not, others can screw off? That big of you.

I don't blame him so much as who approved this so call by out and rights?? There should and emphasis on the word "should " be an oversight committee, this in short is a crime against humanity.

And to the remark to Global Cit above, It should be a concern for all. Why? If this can be done for this type of illness, whos to say for individuals with cancer and other serious illness get a hike in cost to where they can not (if not most) couldnt afford. Health care and appropriate care should not be a a rare commodity that only the wealthy can afford. Its not a privledge but a humaine right- in my book.

This is the system we've created and the system we're (so far) not willing to change.

When we have a for-profit healthcare system, what else would anyone expect? Those who make the drugs or have a controlling patent on the drugs are going to excise the maximum profit they can.

We have the perfect storm of laws and policies to allow drug makers to charge the sky's the limit for their drugs. When our laws don't allow any governmental price negotiations, and no regulations to cap prices, and an insurance industry that will in many cases pay most of it, there is nothing stopping drug companies from charging $1000 a pill, or $5000 a pill, or $10,000 a pill if they think they can get away with it.

And the saddest thing is, you have many people who are not rich, working blue collar jobs, but support the supposed "free market" economy that allows this. They put a libertarian ideology ahead of their own economic interests. If it costs them their life savings to pay for cancer drugs, they will still argue against so called "socialized medicine" because it's the "American way".

They wound up getting posted in different forum sections (News, AllThingsGay, HIV/AIDS) around the same time.

Of course while I was busy copying and pasting theses, metta does the right thing, and just posts a link to the doggone story! icon_lol.gif

Meh, he's not worth that kind of trouble at this point, especially now that he's announced his plans to hedge on the price gouge. Getting him to drop his OKCupid profile was enough of a societal benefit! icon_biggrin.gif
