It's appearing at our local art movie house, we just drove past it 2 hours ago. We agreed we won't be seeing it, following terrible reviews.

It's one thing to (allegedly) rewrite and whitewash history but to not even make a compelling story out of it?!??? All the reviews are that it's a terrible movie.

In the words of ELNathB when I wrote the same opinion here: "grow up"

Seriously, the reviews are indeed scathing. Which is why we won't be going to see it. I didn't realize it had come to Fort Lauderdale already, until yesterday when we saw it while passing the marquee of a local art film house that frequently features gay-themed movies.

You know, this is the same problem I have with any religious brainwashing, they TELL you what to do and HOW to think. This is what happens when people cant think for themselves or are forced into that feeling. You are just a part of the sheeple problem. I guess most people just learn from an early age they are meant to be followers.

IT IS NOT having free will you were born with, this is suppression, you are being lead to believe, deceitfully, that this movie is scathing. "It must be true if it comes off the internet" icon_rolleyes.gif

If free will means being a free thinker, uninhibited by others, then I have it in abundance. But I also respect professional movie reviewers. Not that I won't occasionally disagree with a Leonard Maltin, whose app I consult with its tens of thousands of movie reviews.

But it's not only the credentials of those offering these early reviews, but their arguments regarding the authenticity of a portrayal of an important turning point in US culture. Ignoring the actual historic events of Stonewall, and minimizing the roles of various groups that were the true instigators & leaders, in favor of a dubious fictional character along with his personal, largely unrelated story, is not going to get my approval.

Stonewall was about the culmination of an historical struggle that was far older than some newly arrived kid from the US Midwest. His improbable involvement and importance to the events, while omitting the crucial roles of the real heroes of Stonewall, denying them their proper recognition, is an insult to history and to the participants themselves.

And so THAT'S why we won't be going to see this movie. Not because I was told I shouldn't go.

    Yes.

    I know it's been white-washed and I think it's a shame.

I know that his talk about the main-character being 'straight-acting' is quite misogynic.

But the problem is that he has a point that he needed a white male character to sell the idea. Not only to the audience but also to people pouring money into the project.

It's a shitty world, and I known a lot of game ideas that have been denied because they had a female lead and when asked to change the gender to male and refused, they didn't get any money.

Unless you're financially unbound, it's difficult to not go at least somewhat mainstream.

Roland Emerich's hackery as a filmmaker is his calling card and always has been. How in the hell was he allowed anywhere near this material? "From the director of 2012 and White House Down." Yeesh!

Hey Buddha he financed the movie himself. Read his Buzzfeed interview. He wanted to put himself in a movie. And Danny Winters was the way he did it.
