SEE, the Jesuits are underhandedly, sneaky, that is how they operate, at least there right wing christian counterparts are out in the open about who they hate. I wouldn't call this pope a coward per se, more like a wolf in sheep's clothing. On the streets, a "shuck and jive." As this article points out, any "trust" or good will from this, more moderate pope, is a complete sham, I knew it wouldn't last, same old hate, just more insidious, just as evil icon_twisted.gif

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/michelangelo-signorile/pope-francis-kim-davis_b_8221090.html?ncid=txtlnkusaolp00000592

After first refusing to confirm nor deny it, the Vatican has confirmed that Pope Francis met with the Kentucky clerk Kim Davis at the Vatican Embassy in Washington, where Davis' attorney -- who made the news public after the pope's trip ended -- said Francis told her to "stay strong." And that simple encounter completely undermines all the goodwill the pope created in downplaying "the gay issue" on his U.S. trip.

The pope played us for fools, trying to have it both ways. As I noted last week, he's an artful politician, telling different audiences what they want to hear on homosexuality. He did that in Argentina as a cardinal -- railing against gay marriage when the Vatican expected him to do so -- and he's done that since becoming pope, striking a softer tone on the issue after Benedict's harsh denunciations were a p.r. disaster for the Catholic Church in the West. But this news about Kim Davis portrays him as a more sinister kind of politician. That's the kind that secretly supports hate, ushering the bigots in the back door -- knowing they're an embarrassment -- while speaking publicly about about how none of us can judge one another.

I would have more respect for the pope if he had publicly embraced Kim Davis and made an argument for her, as he did in his visit with the Little Sisters of the Poor, who are battling against filling out a form to exempt themselves from Obamacare's contraception requirement, claiming that even filling out the form violates their religious liberty -- even though I vehemently disagree with the pope on that issue. I'd have more respect if he boldly, explicitly made a public statement (not the vague, general statement he made on his plane on the way home only in response to a reporter's question about Davis), as he did in trying to stop the execution of a Georgia inmate who was put to death this morning. But by meeting with Davis secretly, and then at first having the Vatican neither confirm nor deny the encounter -- and now having the Vatican say it "won't deny" the meeting while it still won't offer any other details -- the pope comes off as a coward.

MuchMoreThanMuscle saidIn the long run, this type of bullshit will further unhinge this religion's talons on society that have already been slowly loosening over the years.

This is angering, however, to say the least.

Think about all the good causes the pope could have highlighted by visiting with a charity or a selfless volunteer. Instead he spends his limited time bolstering the position of this anti-gay bigot -- who isn't even a Catholic?
I can't have respect for someone like that.

The left and Catholic liberals esp were dreaming if they thought for a minute this Pope would try and change Church teaching. If a woman steps out of a fancy dress and puts on a plain one she is still the same woman.Wake up folks the Church will not change her teaching. The Episcopal Church is right down the street.

So quick to judge without considering his point of view!!

The fellow is a single individual who will eventually have to go back to the Vatican ocean that is full of vicious sharks. Catholic doctrine, which single-mindedly supports "Pro Life/no birth control and sees anything but male-to-female connections as unnatural, is a thin-edged sword that has to be walked carefully. No matter how the pope feels personally, he cannot refute centuries of established dogma.

Or else the world would suddenly hear of his death or need to "retire" and the succession of another who will toe the line.

Davis parrots the Catholic party line and perhaps the pope had to applaud her courage to put her religious dogma above "worldly matters"--to placate the shark-cardinals waiting at home.

She's not Catholic, she is Pentecostal Apostolic, which disagrees with the Catholic faith in an enormous way, which makes me surprised he met with her. He made one whopper of a mistake, and also fails to understand the consequences of using 'conscientious objection' in such a generalized fashion, as it means anyone in any position, gov't or private, can deny anyone else service or help etc. using what he termed a human right. Had I been there with those reporters on the plane back to Rome I would have challenged him. Can, then, Muslim refuse marriage licenses to a non Muslims? Can a follower then, of one religion, refuse service to those of another faith on those grounds? ER staff?

A big mistake by the infallible Pope.

Being Catholic was not the point, is the MESSAGE (against homosexuality) she was PARROTING, which essentially agrees with Catholic dogma.

And we do not know if there were "behind-the-scenes" machinations that required the fellow to meet with her in exchange for this or that request.

*I THINK* EVERYTHING is political and all actions made by "world leaders" are steeped in intrigue.

I do not think a Pope chooses his OWN agenda. I bet it is all a game of "give and take" on a world-class scale. Am certain he realizes, after so long a career, that not everyone is going to like/respect him or his choices.

Is bullshit? Is angering? ONLY because you style yourselves as "gay". Do you think you would feel the same if you were actively into women? I ask in candor, not to goad or deride.

Hopefully there's more to the story but man is that disappointing. Of all the people for him to meet with and say "stay strong" to, why Kim Davis?

The Pope met with this clerk, but the Vatican did not say what they talked about. HER LAWYER (emphasis needed) says that Pope Francis told her to stay strong.

... tell me again why anyone should believe a word that a lawyer says. For all we know, the whole "stay strong" could be a lie he made up so that people become more sympathetic to his client's cause (either because they agree with her thinking, or because they hate the Pope. Or both.).

"He said Vatican security picked up her and her husband from their hotel and told her to change her hairdo so she wouldn't be recognized since the Vatican wanted the meeting kept secret."

Wonder if that is the only reason. :-)

This was in my local paper, and it seems to downplay the significance of the story big time. She was included in a group of people who got to meet him (someone I worked with on LGBT stuff was at the White House meeting under similar circumstances), and it doesn't sound like they talked about much of anything, if they even spoke at all.

The man was told to choose anybody he wanted to perform for him and he requested.....Sister Sledge. Why did anyone think he'd have opinions more in line with the times when he's obviously still living in the Disco Era?

So now the plot thickens. Turns out she was one of dozens of people put in front of the pope. The latest announcement is that he only met "officially" with a former student and that he might not have know much about Ms. Davis

    ...AND....

Breaking news: that "official" meeting with the old friend was a gay guy who brought his long-time same sex partner. Turns out the Pooe was friends with them for ages.

Current speculation is that the Pope was set up with respect to the Kim Davis meeting.

Sounds like his administrative staff (who should screen people who get in to see him) is not doing their job -or Davis would not have been on a list of allowed visitors.

The other side were saying the same about the LGBT activists who were present for the White House meeting.

Reading the updates, this seems like backpedaling and distancing himself. For me personally, his credibility has really fallen.

the guy who "set him up" ((cough)) is the same guy whose residence the Pope stayed at in Washington, also the same guy involved in NOM's rally back in April.

I knew that trick and her lawyers were exaggerating.
