Citrulline vs. Arginine (There's isn't a dose of Citrulline small enough for me.)

If you've read the labels of many preworkout products you may have noticed that fewer products are using arginine and more products are using citrulline. Some of you may be surprised by this since arginine is the amino acid that literally started the NO-booster supplement craze back in the late 90's. Back then NO-boosters were simply arginine, mainly in the form of arginine alpha-ketoglutarate. That's because in the body arginine is readily converted to nitric oxide (NO). Today we know a host of other ingredients that also help to increase NO production. But why is citrulline replacing arginine?

To answer that, I'll have to get a bit deeper into the science behind citrulline.

Yes, Miss Vitamin Shoppe, Citrulline works longer in your body than Arginine, but I'm not age 18-40.

Yes, I know it works and that's why 97% of that bottle of Citrulline went in the garbage can.

I'd rather take an Arginine now and an Arginine later.

According to this Wikipedia link, Arginine oxidises to form Citruline. It is derived from the skin of Watermelons and is a good vasco-dilator. It is also good for persons who suffer from rheumatoid arthritis. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citrulline

So, I found a Citrulene-Arginine mix. Finally, Citrulene in 250.

I remember when I was younger, I had a hard erection for more than 30 minutes after going to the gym. That's the way my brain felt after taking 500 mg of Citrulene. Because Citrulene is more bio-available than Arginine, it is active longer. So, it felt like I had a brain hard on for way longer than 30 minutes. It was more like from about 2:00 am to 6:30 am.

Yes, the ankle swelling from snapping hip syndrome was way down, but I postulated that my aging vascular system and not desiring to swim or go to the gym 3 times a week and not going on weekends due to a demanding job has made the Citrulene the only thing that is pumping up my vascular system. To go from 18 minutes on the elliptical once a week to just walking around at work to 4 1/2 hours vascular dilation was the problem.

The price I pay for moving across the United States to Saturn on the Descendant. Saturn means aging and dealing with aging issues. So: I watch for things the body does not produce anymore.

Any, the next time I went into the Vitamin Shoppe. I told a different worker, a young man who is into body building that I was so glad to find only 250 mg of Citrulene (mixed with Arginine). I asked him, how much Citrulene could he stand? Of course, he could take more than a gram (1,000 mg). I thought to myself: that's about right. When a person is still young enough to compete at the Olympics level, of course, their vascular system can handle Citrulene.
