big deal, this Syria war has been going on for years - millions uprooted, tens of thousands dead

the West and the Middle East do absolutely nothing save for a few random air stikes and practically giving away weapons

now the Russians move in and these blowhards all over TV go insane - same with all the assholes in Congress and the ex-Generals on CNN's payroll

    what a joke

So the Russians have stepped into the vacuum we left because we don't want to get stuck in a hopeless quagmire... maybe we should say spasibo, tovarish (thanks, pal.)

OBAMA GET THE HELL OUT OF THERE. We seem to be fighting against both sides at the same time. Let's do what the Brits voted to do in our Civil
War , not get involved. In the long run all we accomplish is national debt and disgraceful number of unattended homeless folks in this country.

Not just the US, Russia should fuck off as well.

Let the richer countries of the Middle East handle the terrorists. Especially Israel. The rest of the Middle East sits idle while others fight, and others take in refugees. It's their neighbourhood, they can deal with the problems.

Are there US special forces on the ground in Syria assisting moderate anti-Assad rebel groups? Probably. What if they come under fire from these Russian air strikes, which don't appear to be distinguishing between different rebel groups? Do the US SF then call in US close air support to repel the Russians? Could get messy.

secessionism is not a civil war.

Obama has done OK on national issue, but on international issues, he has been a disaster. Syria's genocide will eventually haunt his reputation like Rwanda attaches to Clinton's reputation. A single missile could have taken out Assad when he crossed the "red line" that he was toothlessly threatened not to cross.

He and mouthpiece Kerry wagging their fingers at Putin will of course accomplish nothing. Assad will kill another 100,000 Syrians and Europe will just get another millions Syrian refugees, as there will be no one left to fight Assad but DAISH/ISIL.

Stinger missiles could drive the Russians home in a hurry, just as their use in Afghanistan drove them out - the Russians couldn't bear to lose all their MIGs. The missiles could even be controlled by USA "advisors." (There are always secret USA operatives in these situations.) But that won't happen. If the Europeans weren't so paralyzed and cowardly, they might do something - after all, the are getting all the Syrians that Assad isn't successfully killing.

The USA doesn't have to get involved in another mid-east quagmire - just kill Assad (State Dept. mouthpieces can always come up with a legal justification), or arm the rebels.

With all the serious, pressing issues here at home, it is time for the U.S. to mind it's own damn business. Let those Middle Eastern countries fend for themselves for a change.

The problem being, you can only leave problems in other parts of the world to fester for so long before they come back to bite you on the behind.

The Middle East has been in turmoil for the last 2,300 years at least; remember Alexander's vaunted 'empire?' They carved it up at his wake. There is no evidence that they have learned otherwise since then.

At least we are not totally dependent on them for oil. So, party on dudes...

it's funny how the media totally disregards the illegal war Obama and Hilary pulled off in Libya like it never happened - maybe that's why she destroyed all those emails and could care less if the US Ambassador got killed (yeah, she gives it lip service, but he was just collateral damage)

Well, it's way past time for our current do-nothing president to so some of what tj85016 would call "illegal warring" in Syria. Employ stinger missiles to eliminate the Russian planes (being shot by Syrian insurgents, of course, with US advisors guiding them) - just like Russian "advisors" were shooting down aircraft in Ukraine.

    Worked in Afghanistan.

Maybe the Syrian insurgents could even graduate to missiles against the Soviet (er,"Russian") airbase.

hey I think all these myriad of wars the US (or their proxies) have waged since Vietnam have been illegal (e.g. no Congressional approval - at least approval without trumped-up evidence the Bush family loved to sell us)

    Putin Explains Who Supports ISIS

I'm not a fan of Putin but I think this might make an interesting discussion.

^^ It matters not "who supports ISIS." Putin supports Assad and his genocide, and is using it to establish a power base in Syria.

OF course the US could do a lot to eliminate the Russians from Syria, but it is almost surprising that the Europeans do nothing (except that they always have their heads in the sand.) It is Europe that has to take in millions of unexpected refugees, because of Assad's murderous policies. Pretty soon, at least half of all Syrians will be living in Europe. If the Europeans weren't so short-sighted, they would do something about Assad.

LOL. Maybe you should invade China too?

We probably don't have to as they do a pretty good job of knocking off their own

Yeah, right. Nothing to be done about the Chinese at the moment - they are not bombing those we are trying to help.
