People need more science in their lives and less overreliance on manmade rules and obsession over which 'Other' to hate, even though the CAtholic church used to perform Same Sex marriage in its past before turning against this particular 'Other'. It's a similar story to weed - legal for alll of human history until big business (this time not religion, but supported by this patriarchal structure too) took aim and made it seem normal to ban it.

Stories like this amaze me. These people's understanding of "god" is so foreign to my own. When you're dealing with the unproveable and abstract, you can understand it to be whatever you want it to be, so why would you make it something of which you had to be terrified?

I am truly at a loss for words icon_eek.gificon_question.gif?icon_question.gif?icon_question.gif?icon_question.gif?icon_question.gif?

Tennessee commission to consider asking for God's mercy for gay marriage

A county commission in Tennessee on Tuesday night will consider a resolution asking God to spare citizens from the wrath of God that may rain down on them as a result of the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling legalizing gay marriage.

The "Resolution Condemning Judicial Tyranny And Petitioning God's Mercy" asks the state to join rural Blount County in fighting against the ruling and to "protect Natural Marriage from lawless court opinions and the financial schemes of the enemies of righteousness."

The resolution further requests that God "pass us by in His Coming Wrath and not destroy our County as He did Sodom and Gomorrah," according to text of the resolution, published in The Tennesseean newspaper.

I don't think most religious people think of their religions as amorphous or arbitrary. They are told there is only one truth and you better adhere to it or... hell.

The voting is going on right now.

Is it bad that I don't really care which way this "vote" goes? As if the result is going to matter either way?

I do feel awful for the workers who work there, and the citizens who voted for anyone aside from these yahoos in elected office.

I guess so but my whole denomination is kind of based on the idea that we'll never know exactly and that's okay. There is very little that is indisputable besides "God loves you" and "don't be a prick"

It would be poetic justice if the USA settled 100,000 Syrian asylum seekers in this county. Like when the followers of some Yogi took over a county in Oregon once.

    The full resolution, tho!

    Chock full o' wrong!

Anyway, they voted to turn down the agenda and shut down the meeting to avoid a hearing... and, boy, were they about to get a hearing. They may be thinking they can ride out the tide, and then vote on this drivel once the protesters finally leave town.
