Speaking at the Human Rights Campaign National Dinner on Saturday, the Democrat praised LGBT rights campaigners for their hard work over the years but was clearly unimpressed by his peers in the GOP.

"We become more of what America was meant to be,” Biden said. “All men created equal, all have a right to liberty, pursuit of happiness. We say it so often that it loses its meaning. The very fact that we finally recognize that love is not a political matter, it’s a basic human right — the fact that we’ve recognized that is because of you.”

"Was it a signal by President Barack Obama's re-election campaign, designed to attract gay and lesbian supporters? A trial balloon to test voters' feelings about same-sex marriage? Or just a case of the vice president wandering from the campaign's message?

Biden declared on NBC's "Meet the Press" program that he was "absolutely comfortable" allowing same-gender couples to wed."

Again 2012, before Obama, before Hillary. It wasn't popular then.

Prior to angering President Barack Obama's campaign staff in 2012 by openly supporting same-sex marriage, Biden issued support for same-sex civil unions but not marriage during a debate with Sarah Palin in 2008. In 2013, he repeated his support for same-sex marriage in an interview with Rolling Stone Magazine, saying "Remember, I got criticized for saying I support gay marriage. I just decided I couldn't be quiet about it anymore, and everybody was stunned that that's where the public is. And I'm not stunned; it's where the public's been for a while. Talk to any of your kids, for God's sake."

A lot of Democrats in 1996 were in favor of DOMA, thinking civil unions were enough. Biden included.

Biden celebrates advances in gay rights (which he was a big part of) while GOP bigots running for president declare they will outlaw marriage equality if they are elected.
    What a contrast.

I seriously hope Biden runs, I would proudly vote for him. I think he has the tenure and temperment and respect in washington to actually break down the bi-partisan gridlock.

If Hillary gets elected the GOP will do nothing but spend the next 4 years trying to destroy her presidency, it will be Obama 2.0 all over again. I don't think Biden makes the oppositon recoil the way Hillary does.

My biggest disappointment with Obama was that he was too intellectually self important to get down and dirty and play the game you have to play in politics. you have to beat them at their own game, u can't just walk away from the court and say "they're not playing fair".

I think Joe knows how to play the game old school and could actually get shit done, and also at the same time doesn't have nearly the negative baggage as Hillary & Bill.

saying you support something half assed is not "support", he did nothing about it.

how about "HEY obama, quit this political BS and just executive order gay equality the first day of your second term, we know they need, it, we know you support it privately and the religious right can just suck it."

    That is support.
